Dealership Requiring me to Leave vehicle
I have an appointment at a Mercedes Dealership in Arizona tomorrow for some warranty work. It is the LED strip on the passenger front door in which part of it does not light up as bright as the rest of it. The passenger side door sill doesn't light up sometimes either. The service adviser said that I may have to leave the car if they don't have the part, but a loaner is available for $15. I asked why would I have to leave the car for something like that, and couldn't they do what every other dealership does and order the part and send me on my way. He said that if the car is apart, he doesnt want to have to put it back together and then R&R the part later. This doesn't make any sense to me. I use to be a service manager for another car company, and this is the first I heard of the customer "inconveniencing" the dealership.
Is this what I have to get use to with Mercedes or is it just the dealership?

Mercedes warranty does not pay the dealer or tech to r and r twice just because a part is not in stock. Most of the time if it's minor dis assembly then it's just put back together and fixed at a later time but if someone is deep into something nobody is going to pay for the r and r twice.

Tell them if they do not have the part then put it back together and you will bring it back when they have the part. It is under warranty. Tell them you will be contacting MBUSA if they do not want to do it. Then if they still will not, then go to another dealer and then contact MBUSA and complain about the dealer

Yeah, I'll talk to them about it. I know they dont pay them twice, but they do pay them to diag the problem. Or at least they should. We'll see what happens tomorrow, I'll keep you guys posted. dbldpr thats exactly what I was thinking about doing.

Thanks fellas, I didn't have to leave the vehicle. Told them to diag it then order the parts if they didnt have them in stock, to which they did. Thanks for the advice.

My dealer is taking 3 days for a job that seems like it should be small. But at least they gave me a car for free. But I doubt you would have gotten anything like a CLS550 for a loaner.
