MB Star
Hi everyone. I do not know if this is an appropriate location for this post but here goes.
I purchased a made in China MB star system. The laptop does not have a serial port but they included an adaptor. The program will not connect to the multi-plexer.
Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks
Dan

i would suggest to acquire the laptop with rs232, these adapters are not reliable. For example Dell Latitude D630 has got one embeded, they are older generation laptops but reliable, cost approx 60GBP. i am using one for over a year now and never had issues with connectivity or the laptop itself.
Another question: did you connect the multiplexer to the car (and ignition on), when trying the kit? Cause the multiplexer is powered up by the OBDII port. If you just tried it at home to see if everything works, then it would not connect to it cause of same reason.

I did read somewhere that it would need to connect with lpt2 but this one is on lpt7. I tried switching it, but lpt2 was being used by another resource. I'm not much of a computer guy so I don't know how to switch lpt ports. In the meantime before I can get another laptop. Does anyone know how to change lpt ports?
Thanks

i've put "how to change the com port for the usb to serial adapter" on google, one of the results was the link below which i think is quite clear, hope it helps.
(on any different windows the location of the settings to change should not differ a lot)

Ok I tried the directions on the link from our friend. It wouldn't work. It kept saying that com 2 was already in use. I found another link detailing how to for Windows to reset it's numbering via the reg editor. Success! The USB to serial adaptor is finally Com2. Sadly, though, still no communication with mux. Any computer guys out there?
thanks again.

I'm new around here and considering going down a similar path re Star copy. Would you by chance have any update on yours? Hoping you found success and might be willing to share any lessons learned, or links to support that helped you out? Feel free to PM me if that works better for you. I'll gladly return the favor if I get the opportunity...

Hey man. No update yet no body seems to know what to do.
lesson's learned from this? Probably a good idea to buy a package without a computer and just buy a laptop with a serial port. If I had my time back this is what I would have done.
Still I have what I have, so I will continue to ask around and try to find some sort of answer. There must be a way
