Driving on a straight road at 50mph and suddenly the brakes slammed on causing us to swerve left and right before luckily straightening up. My wife and I were sure we were going to crash. If we had been going much quicker this would likely have flipped the car.
Sorry to hear it happened the good thing is I believe MB's systems will compensate to ensure a roll-over won't happen despite that type of braking.

I’ve experienced this twice as well on a 2023 with 8000 mi. It had never “misread” the situation before but did twice in a 10 day period. The car was clean on both instances. Dealer says this is a common complaint with no solution. I’m as worried about the unexpected braking (especially at higher speeds) as I am about being responsible for a person running into me due to a system deployment in error. Really doubt Mercedes will cover the damages….
I am the owner of a 2018 e400 wagon. My vehicle has persistent "false alarm" activation of the radar-driven safety systems, including the emergency braking system.
I'm in communication with MBUSA on these issues. Their position is that the system is "operating as designed" and they are refusing to take action. They are also telling me that mine is an isolated incident, which I know to be untrue from other forum members sharing their same issues.
What I'd like to try to do is get more visibility into how much this is occurring. I've seen at least 3 other members with the same issue just in the E-class forums, and a few scattered around other models. Maybe if we get a large enough group together, who are all experiencing these issues, we can get MBUSA to step up and do the right thing - before someone gets seriously injured, or worse, by these issues.
So if you are experiencing these issues - false alarms, sudden braking, the system killing the accelerator because it thinks there's an obstacle - please post below, and we will try to get some more attention focused on this serious issue.

I had this issue on my 2019 S63. They did finally fix it after 3 trips to 2 different dealers. On my car it was one of the rear radar sensors. It has worked fine since the replacement of the sensor though.
I had the most terrifying experience happen two weeks ago. I was driving 25 mph, didn't have any cars behind or in front of me. The car locked up, immediately stopped. Like hitting a brick wall, instantly stopped.
Truly terrifying. Dealer acting like it was a tire issue, not their fault, etc. Has anyone had this resolved through Mercedes? I basically am petrified to drive this car ever again.
Mine (W206 from 2021) is still doing this, and I have not heard about a permanent fix here in The Netherlands. Multiple Merc dealers are telling me that software updates etc should solve it, up until now numerous software updates further the problem still exists. However, turning off "Close Range Braking" solved the issue that the cars come to a standstill, which is indeed a very terrifying experience. It still detects phantom cars or pedestrians regularly when using the Adaptive Cruise Control, beeps at me very loudly, and starts to slow down but then realizes there is nothing there and resumes the Adaptive Cruise Control speed. You can see this process happening when you have the Driving Assistant view selected in the digital driver display. It will mark the area in front of the car red, start yelling at me, and start slowing down but then that red area goes away almost immediately and it comes to its senses and resumes the set speed.
My advice, turn off close-range braking, keep sensors clean, and (for me) no more Mercedes. Before this, I had the VW Passat and Ford Mondeo, both with the Active Brake Assist and Adaptive Cruise control option, but never had this happen.

Hello. I have experienced this issue with my 2022 Mercdes EQS 450+ and it only has 23,000 miles.

While driving the vehicle 5-45 mph the vehicle brakes automatically on its own and has happened 7 times already. See video attached on minute 0:1:10.
Car doesn't turn on and lots of message errors are displayed in the dashboard. Ex: Malfunction, Brake malfuntion, Stop Brake error msg, Inoperable msg error and more. see pics attached please.
The driver side door handles pop up but it won't open the car. I have to wait 1 minute to be able to open the car, but when I open the car, the car won't start
The back right rear door handles pop up and when attempting to open the door, the door handles closes on its own.
Brakes yerk a bit and slips taking time to break. I would have to pump on the brake 2-3 times before brakes can start slowing the car down.
I sometimes can't open the trunk manually. I would have to use the remote control to open the trunk. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't
The computer of the vehicle does not communicate well with Electrify America giving me a Fail connection error and I am having to waste 2.5 hrs every time I go to charge 2-3 times a week. This has been re-occurring since I purchased the car.
While driving the car automatically stopped by braking abruptly and The gear shifted from Drive to Park to Reverse on its own while driving. This happened on Dec 1, 2023 at 1:48pm. You can see this on on a dash cam video i have saved in my external drive. This already caused someone to rear end me already.

for the record i dont drive with driver assist or auto pilot since my car does not have this capabilities since it was not designed by manifactured.

Kinda makes me glad I have older Mercedes. I've not read through five pages of posts, so maybe this has been covered.
I recently had my Pre-Safe Brake functions and associated functions disabled when I tried to do a throttle position module (TPM) reset using iCarsoft. Maybe user error, maybe not, but the calibration of my radar unit for Distronic Plus was also reset, causing Distronic, Lane Assist, etc. to become inoperable. I had to recalibrate the horizontal and vertical sensors using XENTRY to restore all functions.
Has anyone checked their status using XENTRY? Check module A89.
I have a 2023 Mercedes C300 and today was the 2nd time this has happened. First time was about 1-2 months ago and I was turning left onto a busy street when it happened and there was oncoming traffic so it was a bit scary. Today it happened while turning left at a stop light, the brakes hit so hard that the front of my car bottomed out and scraped the street thankfully no one was behind me but was very scary as it happened in the middle of a busy intersection. Not sure if it's an issue with auto brake, collision detection, or the recent recall with the fuel pump possibly cutting power.

Here is the official investigation from Mercedes. Of course, they blame on anything else except malfunctioning. I don't even know how to interpret this report
Wow, that looks like they made the reports so that it cannot be understood by common people like you and me.
The thing is they don’t give a sh*t about the real needs of the customer. The cars at Mercedes are being build by the accounting department, not the engineers. It reflects in every aspect and quality of the cars they put on the road for the last couple of years.
While using cruise control on my Mercedes, my car will hard break coming up on the toll check at Paluxy Drive exit. This is in a spot on Loop 49 in Tyler, Texas, where it should not be breaking. It literally shuts down from 70 until I give it gas. It is at a toll check that you drive under. I did notice on my screen a little credit card and coin emblem popped up in the place of the cruise control. The system thinks that I'm supposed to slow down and pay but it's just a drive-under tag scanner, nobody slows down. I have brought this to the attention of the Mercedes dealership. I don’t know if this is something Mercedes needs to correct or is this something TOLL 49 triggers on GPS and they need to correct. It’s scary. It breaks so hard I could have been rear ended!
Here is another picture of the overpass. It happened about where the red circle is... maybe 1 car length away from being under the overpass.
My 2017 e400 wagon slammed on the brakes under an overpass on a busy local this evening. Absolutely nothing in front of us and I was driving completely normally, not changing lanes or passing or speeding or anything. Fortunately the car behind us was not too close.
Is the only way to disable the brake assist to go into the settings every time the car is started and disable it??
I drive a 2020 GLC 300. There have been 3 instances where the vehicle has beeped twice, then romped on the brakes, threw me forward & tightened the seatbelts. Hello whiplash. Every time I was the only vehicle around, and twice it was on the same stretch of road. I am furious, and my neck can’t take much more of this!
I sincerely hope that you get a response from the manufacturer, but I wouldn’t bank on it. This will absolutely be my last MB.
I have a glb and upon backing out,with no cars coming, the brakes slams. This literally happened at least 4-5 times and I’m now suffering with whiplash. Very painful!!
My wife has experienced the phantom braking issue 6 times. Twice in a parking lot while backing out. Each time with no cars around (once with no other car in the parking lot). Once while in the interstate at 60MPH. Three times on a city street at approx. 35 MPH in the exact same spot each time. Obviously we do all we can to avoid that area, but this problem is not limited to just that area. We have made a complaint to three separate dealerships with no meaningful help or feedback (it "should" be taken care of with the "next" software update....). We have complained to the manufacturer and we have filed a report with NHTSA. I am on here to put more information out there on this issue that could result in a serious injury in the future if it is not rectified. I am even concerned about trading the car in since I'm sure they would just resell it and put someone else at risk.
Been checked out for a while - disappointing but not surprising to see that these issues continue for people.
MBUSA, SF Benz, and Mercedes Manhattan have all been made aware of the issue, up to the level of Chairman. So the minute there is an issue that causes an accident, there is liability up and down their organization.
I had an unrelated issue with me car at delivery, and he and the CAC quickly stepped up and made it right.
As this issue kept happening, I was at one point offered a substantial credit toward any other new Benz, by Mr Rouhani. When I went to take them up on it, after setting up the deal 100% with my local dealer, the CAC said my offer had "Expired" and refused to honor it. In fact they refused to reply to a single call or email after that.
If anyone wants to contact the CAC to try to get some help, send me a message and I will share direct contact info for the more senior people. All I'd ask is that if anyone gets any traction on them making things right, let me know.
I have experienced phantom braking at least 4-5 times. I’m suffering with whiplash from it. I have no clue on how to get help beyond the dealership.
I have read through this thread before as I have had this issue happen multiple times. I assumed sensors were dirty or rain was causing confusion with the system and have not raised with the dealership as of yet. The first time I was driving down a suburban road, a pedestrian was about 100 yards ahead, nothing nearby and the car brakes slammed on. It happened again on my neighborhood street which is a very quiet street going about 15 MPH. The alarm sometimes beeps when going around the rotary near my house where there is a curb close by.
Today it just happened again on a busy shopping district street in Boston with lots of pedestrian traffic, I was waiting at the light and started to turn right after pedestrians crossed, only to have brakes slammed on causing me to lurch forward. I was so scared I did hit something, only to find out there was nothing to cause this. I am terrified of this car and after this incident want to get rid of it.
