W210 red & green security lights flashing?

'96 W210 (E320) has both red & green security lights flashing for about 30 seconds after locking or unlocking with the remote. Did a search, replaced the batteries with new, resynched the remote both ways (as the instructions in the manual and the posts on the board) but they both still flash. Any help appreciated, thanks!

Do you have another remote to try? I bet that it will be a problem with that one remote.

Also, where did you get the batteries? Were they fresh?

As luck would have it, the other remote broke last month.

The batteries are new from WalMart and test out to their nominal voltage.

Any other info greatly appreciated!

I just looked it up.

The service information states:

Green and red alternating: No engine control enable

Green and red simultaneously: Transmitter battery voltage too low

With new batteries, if the voltage is too low, the battery contacts may be dirty. If the lights are alternating, there's another problem (and it says to do "test step 7 of function check" which I won't look into until you state which pattern you have...)

When I used to work a lot with electronics, I would use a pencil eraser to remove the oxidation from a contact. Use a can of compressed air to remove any eraser shavings or residue. The bent leaf type springs can break very easily though so be careful (I don't know what kind of contacts are in these remotes). There are also contact cleaners sold in spray bottles which you can get in any electronics shop. They're better for removing dirt or dust than oxidation though.

Agreed, but I always use the pencil eraser like you suggested! I don't rub it back and forth, just in one direction.

Exactly. You don't want to stress it any more than necessary.
