722.6 Replacement ETC TCM Version Coding

Not sure this is the correct forum? And I am a newbie about coding or variants etc.

Per a Service Bulletin, I replaced the TCM in my 2004 CLK. Previously owned unit from e-bay.
Did the 'driving' adaption procedure, successfully.
(The symptoms disappeared, and the 722.6 started shifting smoothly as with my 2 other 3.2/722.6 MBs)

At an indie MB Specialist garage they were reading my codes and could not access the TCM.
Told me it needed "Coding", matched to the VIN.

(Maybe, but it solved the problem and is still doing fine. Except for Park Release on startup.)

I have an appointment at the local dealership next week for a sunroof recall bulletin.

Is this 'coding' something that can be done after the replacement TCM is already installed in the vehicle?

ues totally! Coding is part of the installation. It's like doing a proper mariage of all the numbers.

The 722.6 is a 5-speed, right? I don't think is needs to be coded to the car. You can replace the conductor plate without coding it to the car. (I could be wrong.)

So, like the 722.9 (7G) tranny that has the TCM integrated into the conductor plate, the 5-speed still needs coding?
