M278 faultcode P13B200 P13B300

Hello Community,

I have overhauled the complete M278 engine and have driven 500km, now the vehicle stops sporadically and after a few minutes

it runs again without any problems.

The following errors are stored: P13B200, P13B300

Can anyone help me?

Both are ignition coil related codes. Have you tried Google?

An M278 stalls now and then after repair... the fact codes are STORED is a bit odd.
walk components around to see if codes follow.

Fuel or spark ?? I lean towards electrical issue more so than a fuel delivery

Perhaps coil connectors are now too open/loose?(that wouldn't stop an engine!)

What is the mileage?

What was wrong with this engine before repairs? Could this be related to the "previous issue"?

Tied to extreme-heat condition... ?
CPS... wet or dry?

According to Xentry, it is fuse 1 and 2 of the ignition coils, but these fuses do not exist.

I have replaced all 8 ignition coils with new ones, but the fault remains.

It is of course also possible that the fault was already there before the engine was overhauled, but I have now driven approx. 500 km without any problems. The vehicle has now covered a total of 280,00km.

The engine only had a timing chain problem before the repair, but I overhauled the entire engine, new pistons, steel liners, new injectors, everything completely new...

The problem always occurs relatively early, usually the engine can be started again after a few minutes and it runs again without any problems, I will have a look at the wiring etc.

A needle in hay stack...

I see... all new coils, good fuses and two codes pointing at coils after engine quits.
Not the most obvious!!

It seems the ECU is crashing with somewhat predictable regularity. Restart and then ok thereafter.

-- Can you scan the whole chassis for other crazy modules impacting ECU work.

-- Can you look at live data instead of driving when engine wants to quit.
- A bad CKP can stop engine but we need evidence of what's not happening.
- look at both your fuel pressures under load.

- You had the engine out for complete overhaul... you definitely reconnected the Main GND Strap at bell housing junction with tranny, yes ?

-- Are all 4x camshaft sensors reporting well when engine quits.

-- you replaced all your injectors and configured then with Xentry guided procedure, right?

🤞

Here is the solution:

It happened to me twice that I forgot to screw on the ground wire... I have now driven almost 4000km without any problems and am very satisfied.

Many thanks for your help!

Good to hear the solution and ECU was not blown by coils seeking GND.
