Question about used ism from another car
Hi
If I get a used ism does it have to be from the same car? I was told that you could use a newer ism on older one. It is from a 2011 w212 e class and using it on a 2007 w164.

ISM : Intelligent Shifter Module
Its the PRND actuator attached on the tranny outside.
It takes its orders over CAN-C shared by all the main VIP's: F-SAM/ECU/TCU/ESP/LPFP/

ISM is built with solderless pins that hinder performance of neighboring VIP's: ECU/TCU.
I evidenced the whole CAN-C performance is reduced to basic by a few marginal units.
Fixing this ISM + ESP modules is positively where I got my smooth tranny from and likely also GDI timings.
Disrupting ECU/TCU timings with unsustained traffic creates opportunities: clunky tranny + reduced power.
It's easily repaired.

I really don't think one can go very far with a mismatched module...

Industry standard does not favor repairing modules but it's the only option here!
New modules in US market place are only solderless grade.
ESP is simple to deal with.
