Is there no compass!!??? 2024 GLE

It appears that there is no compass function in my 2024 GLE (or in the MBUX operating system). Nowhere does the car tell you north, south, east, or west.

The only way to know which way you’re pointed (aside from using the sun) is opening the map.

The car has two gigantic f’n displays that show you every useless piece of information from wireless signal strength to speaker status. But north, south, east, or west? Mercedes found this to be unnecessary.

Am I missing something?

Most Mercedes are driven on roads, which limit which direction you go. Pay attention to road signs, know where you are going. I have found Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps, etc. have the option of identifying North.

Agree, that said, if using built-in navigation, I thought there is split screen mode that you can enable compass or a clock on the right side along side the main infotainment screen.

The internet became popular and commonplace around the late nineties, and I have to say:

Your comment is hands-down the dumbest thing I have ever read on it. Think about that. And think about why. Let me help:

1. Most cars (since the advent of digital displays) have some sort of compass display. A little N S E or W put somewhere, either in the instrument cluster or the center display.

2. My 2019 GLE had it. Did Mercedes-Benz expect that it not be driven on roads until 2024?

3. There is no need to save screen real estate, especially since the digital display is 2-3 times as large and since myriad other useless bits of information that occupy more space are constantly displayed. There’s plenty of room for NSEorW.

4. Sometimes people miss signs and - on occasion- need a compass so that they can quickly know which direction they’re heading. Not everything requires using the cumbersome navigation system.

Seriouslu dude…. you should be utterly embarrassed by your response.

It's pretty idiotic to whine about no compass. Perhaps a GLE isn't for you if you don't know where you are going. Do you get lost often? Maybe share your phone's location with others to come rescue you. What does your Operator's Manual say?

Hint: Don't come here as a newbie and get snarky with people trying to help.

I don’t know if you’re aware of it, but there are some people who drive in less-than familiar places without using the navigation system. Not every road sign says “north” or “south”.

it’s a ridiculously small, ridiculously simple thing for Mercedes to put somewhere on their gigantic display. They did it before. There is absolutely no reason to omit it.

If they can be bothered to put a speaker-off icon on the display (as if we couldn’t tell by the fact that there’s no music playin), then writing N or S or E or W should be there too.

My question was whether or not it was available and I hadn’t selected it. You people came at me with life lessons instead.

Does the Operator's Manual address compass orientation?

The compass is addressed five times in the Operator's Manual, pp. 286, 340, 347, and 361.

I looked. I found the word “compass” just twice, neither of which had anything to with how to have the software show you your direction on the display.

I think this simple albeit useful feature is simply missing…. which is a real blunder, in my opinion. Absolutely no reason for omitting it.

I guess alternatively could opt for old school physical compass.

Yeah. I’ll probably do that.

You don’t often need it, but when you do - ie when you quickly need to know which way you’re headed - it’s really, really helpful

Truthfully, on an a car at this price, I really shouldn’t have to. Know what I mean?

I mean I totally get where you are coming from. Agree with the good to have something when not needed than not have something when needed.

Another alternative would be to trade-in your Mercedes for a Porsche so you can option this:

Yeah, I know that doesn't help. Just felt like posting something really stoopid. LOL

Not sure if the Compass is an option or not. Have you checked your build sheet at www.lastvin.com or https://mb.vin?
