W212 ntg 4.0. aps50 to command

hi
I want to replace my audio50 with command 4.0. This is the only configuration I'm interested in, since I already have a carplay box for ntg 4.0
Can I buy the HU and screen separately or does it have to be a set? There are different serial numbers of headunits and screens
Can the cable concertino HU and screen be the same as I have in aps50 and 5.8” screen?
thx!

The one way to be successful with NTG upgrade is to have a working base system with an additional Android module plugged-in.

Some kits integrate nicely with MB screen while other kits add a whole new touch enabled Android tablet screen.

Screwing with NTG module itself is not the way I know to meet sucess.

BTW, original screen is a really hot module with an external blower fan and filter - CLEAN this filter!

I already have a module that works wonderfully for me on aps50, but the original lcd broke. I took the opportunity to change myself to a larger 7” screen and such has command ntg 4.0
Hence my question. Do I have to buy HU command 4.0 along with the screen and cable as a set (from one car) or can I buy HU separately and from another seller the screen itself. The cable connecting the screen and hu seems to be the same as it is now in my aps50->5.8“ will be the same as command->7”?

Maybe I’ve made things too complicated. Let me explain it calmly one more time.
Currently, I have an Audio50 head unit (HU) installed with a 5.8" screen. I’ve added a CarPlay box to it. Everything works fine, but my display (the original 5.8" LCD) is starting to fail, and I need to replace it.

Since I’m already replacing the display, I thought I might as well upgrade the Audio50 to a COMAND system. I don’t want a newer COMAND system (4.5, 4.7) because my CarPlay box only works with NTG4.0.

So, here’s my question: If I replace the Audio50 + the broken 5.8" screen with a COMAND unit + a 7" screen, do I need to look for a complete set? Or can I buy the COMAND unit (HU) and the 7" screen separately (from two different cars)?

Another question is whether the cable connecting the Audio50 to the 5.8" screen is the same as the cable connecting the COMAND unit to the 7" screen. The connector shape is the same, but I’m not sure if the pin layout is different.

I hope this explanation is clear, even though my English might not be perfect.

Best regards,
Thanks for your willingness to help!

NEEDLE IN THE HAY STACK

yes, now I understand what you want to do.

The best case scenario is you grab the pair NTG+ Display

Worst case if you can't get a pair then try separate units knowing what you may bump into incompatibilities.

Not many ppl attempt to convert NTG and publish results.

Or you can buy from separate sellers taking into account the compatibly as should be quite easy, there are few options.

Anyway the Chinese interface will have to be able to increase the screen resolution as the 7" need a higher resolution.

Yes, I have a switch from 5.8” to 7”

I have already installed. I confirm. components from other vendors work together. the HU-Screen cable fits from the aps50 set, 5.8”

Cooling fan

Hi all,

Hi Richard,

I’ve managed to retrofit ntg 4.0 in my W207 but only thing outstanding is the cooling fan you mentioned. Can you please advise what parts I need and how to wire it accordingly. I found on ebay fan with conduit, where do I go from there?

Regards,
Alin
