MB Drive Program

I am currently 20 years old and want to work for Mercedes as a tech. I will be relocating to Jacksonville in about two years, which just also happens to be one of four locations in the country that does the DRIVE program. My question is should I pay the money to go to a tech school and then apply for the program, or should I just try to get a job at the dealership and see if they’ll sponsor me in, given it’s their own program anyways? Curious to get opinions and see if anybody knows how likely it is that they’ll even sponsor me in without any official schooling. Thank you!

I don't think MB is going to sponsor you from scratch knowing that you will be underpaid and will jump ship ASAP after becoming qualified.

Talk to the local dealer about your plans... never take NO for answer to reach your goal. Mercedes car service is very rewarding.
🤞

Maybe I worded something wrong, but I don’t plan to jump ship. I plan on working at Mercedes for as long as possible, maybe opening my own speciality shop one day but who knows.

Thank you!

auto motive repair at the dealership is a tough business.

Talk to mechanics first.

I think Cali meant that once techs get the cert and MB dealer service on the resume, there's a good chance they'll leave for a better paying job elsewhere. Same story with any place I've ever worked.

MEchanics bounce around due to working conditions and pay just not a good job to raise a family on anymore.

DEalers are some nasty places to work unless daddy owns it.
