Help: looking for resource to explain module/variant coding
For example- I replaced my brake light bulbs with LEDs and they were throwing an error for them being out even though they were working fine, I tinkered around with the rear SAM variants and thought I found an option for bulb/led but that didn't do anything, then I tried a few other things and that left me with only the rear fogs working as a brake light rather than the whole tail light.
I basically want to see if I can run the LEDs without a warning and without having to wire up resistors. I also saw in the options the ability to flash brake lights for heavy braking, etc. Some simple stuff like that would be great to have full explanations of.
Thanks in advance!
But to answer your question, I’ve not found any definitive list of configuration options.
The Variant coding is generally not a simple process. Some tools like what you mentioned make it easy, if they will do what you need done. Like my tool does like a hundred misc bs things but only two were of use to me. Anything else you have to do the hard way,
Google "DTS Monaco coding" to see how complicated it is when you have to do it the hard way, which I think is likely in most all cases. BenzNinja is no doubt the easiest and best way to do it.
The hardware needed cost me $400, plus a real laptop to run the software and pay Mr Ninja nearly 600. Ninja is service for life, which can easily come in handy and likely all pay for itself by avoiding unpleasant dealer visits.

That being said there is a ton of info on the web you just have to search and read allot. It is possible to change the bulb settings on almost every bulb on the car. But my advice would be to use amazon and get new bulbs that dont throw errors and if they do return them.
Six tips from me
1 Always do complete and variant backups before editing any settings.
2 Only change one thing at a time if you are unsure what you are doing.
3 You can use google translate to read the German words you probably dont know.
4 AI can help but is rarely 100% correct souse it more for insight and to learn what modules a setting might be in.
5 Take your time and use it as a learning process as it takes time to get comfortable.
6 The Mercedes software suite is by far the safest and best way to do coding.
Below is a example of how I use Google translate although I dont usually do the original and translation. I just did that to help clarify what I'm meaning.
