WTB, 05/06 e55 with warranty have until 5/09
Hello, I am in the market for an e55 and am ready to buy if I find the right deal. My situation is that I have a 2004 e500 lease expiring in May of 2009. I will be replacing this car with the e55. I am a cash buyer and am wiling to travel for a great deal. I have started my search and found that it is now a buyers market. Here is a wish list of what I would like to have on the beast:
keyless go
parktronic
silver/charcoal/white exterior other colors considered
warranty, up to 100k preferred (or eligible for extended warranty)
under 45k miles
excellent condition, no accidents
1 owner with all service records
price in the $28-34k range depending on options, mileage condition etc.
obviously no lemons, manufacturer buybacks or questionable history vehicles considered
any help or advice is appreciated
I live in southern california and am scouring craigslist, autotrader etc in my search.

Its already at $35K in the Buy it now, and this is eBay. OP, if you want a deal, get a Manheim car and you can get one with all the options you request for mabye around $33K.

I have contacted a local auto broker and think that my offer is realistic. In november a 2005 with 36k miles sold at auction for $28k, this broker charges $800 to bid on the car, so $28,800 for a 2005. I recently read a posting from another member on the board that bought a 2006 for $29,500 with 39k miles. My goal will be to pickup a 2006 in the 30-33k range, with time being on my side, economy is not getting any better. No problem finding deals at Auction. However, one of your requirements is full service history. How are you going to get that via Auction? Does extended (Mercedes Benz) warranty pass on to the buyer if the car is bought at Auction?

Good luck, and definitely try to get a CarFax or Car Check. If not, pick one up from a dealer that has the history on EBay. Plenty of good deals out there.

Sold by dealers
Price is less than $40K
Pulls up 12 cars, three are CPO's. Quite a few have less than 30K miles on them, keep looking.

I am now looking to buy one under mfr original warranty if I can pickup an 06, then purchase an extended warranty after having the car checked out. The auction I'll be purchasing from is a Mercedes auction, in Riverside, CA. I will be inspecting and pulling carfax on cars before having them bid at auction. Full service history and ownership changes should be available, via VIN#. My hope was to purchase this car from an individual, but realistic price expectations and a deflating market tend to hinder that goal. I am now most likely looking at a lease return with low miles. I have time so I will most likely continue to alter my requirements. Extended warranties are only passed on to the buyer and are null and void when a car is sold at auction, so you are correct. I won't be able to buy a MB with an extended warranty at auction. I do not believe that buying at auction under warranty would preclude me from buying an extended warranty if the car passes an inspection test and is still under the mfr warranty. That is something that I will have to check on, so thanks for the tip.

Good luck. I find it difficult to get maintenance history from the dealers but I've only tried via email and over the phone. I suppose it may be different if you go to the dealer and ask. I would think you would need an 'inside' person to give this to you. Good luck. I looking to purchase through a MBZ dealership rather than private party - only because Wagons are rare.
