1994 E500
FS: 1994 E500 - Brilliant Silver - 137.5k mi - $15,000 - Mount Airy, MD

Updated: 27 June 2009
Vehicle: 1994 Mercedes-Benz E500
VIN: WDBEA36E3RC140870
Mileage: 137,500 miles
Link/Details: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2394426...7619809056403/
Contact: Patrick at: pstadter(at)verizon(dot)net ; I only check this at night/weekends and will respond with a real-time email address and cell phone for serious inquiries.
Price: $15,000 USD which buys the purchaser:
1.1994 E500 automobile with a clean title and no liens
2.MBZ Owner’s Manual
3.Custom Covercraft Evolution IV car cover
4.E-Class (W124) Owners Bible
5.Copy of MBZ maintenance records
6.Custom code reader to augment integrate vehicle code reader
7.OE body and trim paint (Body: Code 744 Brilliant Silver Metallic; Trim: Code 7181 Atlas Grey Metallic)
8.Numerous historical and recent articles on the W124 E500/500E
9.MBZ 2005 Workshop Information System discs (WIS/ASRA) (2 discs)
10.MBZ 2005 Electronic Parts Catalog discs (EPC) (2 discs plus set-up disc)
11.MBZ W124 Manual discs (2 discs)
12.Miscellaneous extra parts remaining at time of sale (e.g., oil filters, old headlight, etc)

Option: $500 USD – Set of four 18” original AMG Monoblock wheels (tires mounted, front w/ ~25% left, rear tires need to be replaced)
(Note: if the purchaser of the car does not choose to buy these, I will sell them separately at the going used-part market price (which I believe is a bit higher than the prices indicated))

Color (ext): Brilliant Silver Metallic (Code 744) with Atlas Grey (Code 7181) trim/valance. Body is in very good condition and front valance/trim is in good condition.
Color (int): Black leather in very good condition – no cracks or tears in the leather; one crack in the wood highlights, no chipping at the edges. Carpets and mats are clean and in good condition.
Basic Info: I’ll assume you know the history and pedigree of this car if you’ve read this far. This is a California car (so it has the integrated code reader in the engine compartment) and lived most of its life in Texas, shipped professionally via high-end transporter Intercity Transport to Maryland in October 2005. Windows have always been tinted to protect interior: very dark when in TX, and updated professionally to meet MD law (certified by Maryland State Police for MD State Inspection purposes with certification stickers on all windows). All items are stock with the exception of externally adjustable Koni struts/shocks on the front and headlight protection film. The self-level system (SLS) functions as designed. All other functions on the car work except the front automatic headrest adjustment; headrests adjust manually and stay in position. Car does not leak and has had regular fluid changes. Air conditioning and heating system work well. Well maintained throughout its life by knowledgeable owners. All owners have been non-smokers and car has been garage stored - no snow or treated-roads driving in last five years.

Reason for Sale: Would like to sell one of five cars due to agreement with my wife having completed two-bay garage addition to existing two-bay garage for a total of four garage bays. Currently own five vehicles and the agreement was one vehicle for each garage bay, and none on the street. Add in young children and a lack of time currently to work on five cars – one has to go. Three candidates to sell among the five: ’95 BMW M3 is modified as my track rat, ’89 VW GTi-16v is too functional (hatchback) to let go (and is my back-up track rat), so the MB E500 has to go. Note that there is no time pressure to sell as my wife is patient and the VW GTi-16v is on the street with no serious concerns.

Seriously. Not only bad etiquette (if CharlieE500 is going to try to talk down a sale for a friend, at least show an understanding of what is being offered for sale) but an appalling lack of appreciation and understanding of the difference between an MBZ that is 1 of 374 in the US in 1994 that is hand built by Porsche versus a nice but fairly standard high-performance Benz. I appreciate the E55 (though personally I appreciate the M5 a bit more), but it is a vastly different driving experience that the 500E/E500. I would prefer to sell this vehicle to someone who understands what is being purchased and will care for it as I (and previous owners) have. pas

Thank you for the interest; if you have questions about the vehicle please contact me at pstadter(at)verizon(dot)net I take every offer or contact concerning the vehicle seriously, and will maintain a database of questions/answers for any follow-on discussions, however it is quite curious to receive an offer without even explicit questions relative to the ETA or wiring harness or any of the specific details of the car. thank you pas

This board cracks me up sometimes. Aren't we all on the same team? We all want the best value for our cars, and these times are depressing in that regard. I've always loved 500E's, wish I had a garage space for one. My first thought RE the price was that it was a little high considering the mileage and the current market.

Fact is there are some serious buys out there. 500E is rare (and Porsche built), moreso than my W210 E55, but still not an AMG model and at 15K creeping towards '03 E55 territory (23K and up, esp w/ w212's on the way). I don't think the OP is that far off, but this is just a bad time to be selling it. My dad and I own a '98 Supra TT 6speed together, low miles, stock (very important in that community) and have wrestled with selling it, but unless we find the right buyer now we will not get the money it is worth.

OP, good luck with the sale, I for one hope you are in a position to hold onto it until a fair sale price is reached.

well said. I actually was at the Porsche factory once and saw these cars being assembled - quite a site.

These are very nice and rare cars for a collector or fanatic, not for the mainstream owner.

thanks

No offense taken and thanks for not turning it into a flame war. I'm lucky to have had the opportunity to own this car - it is an incredible driving experience. I'm also lucky to be in a situation in which I can afford to wait for a solid sale. I've taken the time over more than a year (since I drew up plans for my garage addition and made the aforementioned agreement with my wife) to track sales of this model (and attempted to normalize for year and mileage). Candidly I believe the price is fair - it is not a steal but it is also not ridiculous when one understands that it is not a general market auto but appeals to a core enthusiast group (or subculture https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif ). While the macroeconomic environment is challenging, the varying economic strata (think: car enthusiasts, MBZ enthusiasts, 500E/E500 enthusiasts) are such that I'm confident there is a good next owner out there that will (a) care for it and (b) appreciate it as a driver's car. For those still reading along at home, a common question several interested parties have asked me is do I have records for the vehicle: I have extensive records for all the work done on the vehicle back to the first owner who I understand was in Service/Sales at an MBZ dealer (and thus had the vehicle serviced at his dealership). The records cover everything routine (e.g., oil, tranny fluid, coolant), preventative (e.g., harness, ETA, etc) and R&R (e.g., caps/rotors, engine mounts/tranny mount, guibo/flex disc, etc). pas

price

Price on these cars seem to vary up to 8k. The reason is completely due to what repairs have been done recently and what repairs are going to be necessary soon.

I just bought a '92 for 12k with 113k miles but I had to put in over 5k in repairs and service.

pasE500, KEEP IT!

P.S. I bought a 99 E55 brand new and had it until last year. Guess what I replaced it with ...

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is ETA? Also did this car have a timing belt or timing chain?
Its a very nice car at a very fair price. I have never seen a 500E/E500 on the road.

Electronic Throttle Actuator (or Throttle Body Actuator) - to some extent think of it as an electro-mechanical version of what current modern cars accomplish with computers. The car as a timing chain and tensioner - the chains are very long lived (200+ k miles) and by pulling the valve covers and lower pan to check the rails and the state of the tensioner (and frankly listening to the engine) one can assess the state. All that has been done on this car (including having the ETA replaced) and the rails, tensioner and chain are in very good working order.

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense now. You do have a very special car and whoever buys it will be very happy with it.

Beautiful car! GL with sale!

If I had not picked up a W210 E55 very recently or if I had extra $$$ and driveway space I would not hesitate picking this one up. E500s are so hard to come by.
