Yep, I'm pretty sure that it varies based on your home state. I know that you have to pay tax to Illinois for registering the car that you buy no matter what, unless something has changed in the last few years. Greedy *******s

2004 S55 (SOLD, miss it every day), 2009 GL550
keep the car, trade the wife...
or at least try teach her how to appreciate power before you lose the CL
my wife's friend recently traded down from an S63 to a W212 E350 because the 63 was too much car. She really misses the passing power, and i think might even regret the switch, even though she really likes her new W212 (and who wouldn't??)
good luck, hope you can get the wife happy again

1000000%.
The private sale means nothing unless I keep your plates. Then, its only a matter of months before I get a "fix it" ticket that is only fixed by:
1. Providing proof of residency of the named state
OR
2. Registering the car in my state (This is where you would pay tax)
Or I can just let the ticket go to FTA. FTW.
Very clean ride tho. This you should throw on Ebay. It seems cherry cars such as this one move with ease on there... GL!
