Noob questions

Been lurking a bit since a friend took me for a ride in his 06 E55 wagon. It's seemingly in mint condition with 36k miles and he has tossed around selling it to get a new CLS63. The ride blew my head off and I suddenly made him promise to offer it to me first--he agreed. I could afford his price, which appears a sweetheart deal well under listings here, and I put no more than 6k miles on my own car every year. I can figure gas and insurance costs, and I see major repairs here, but I'm wondering if anyone could ballpark approximate service costs per year... Or is this car too exotic to make such an est? I would use indep.service in mt. town except for big things during trips to Denver. Thanks in advance for potential curiosity from someone who has never owned MB.

Since you are looking at a 36k mile car that seems to be maintained properly, I would think you have few out of pocket costs that may pop up.
The major costs that seem to pop up are air suspension related, not as big of a problem now since you can get rebuilt Arnott units now.
The S/C clutch can be an expensive fix, but Shardul and the guys in TX offer a smaller unit for a fraction of the cost of a factory MB part.

If you can turn your own wrenches or have a good indy mechanic, small repairs like motor mounts, brake pads, and various sensors are pretty easy to tackle.

Bottom line is, the car should not be that much more expensive to maintain compared to any other foreign luxury car.

Not sure what car he is talking about b/c the yellow car is wearing Bridgestone Potenza's, has NAV, and does not seem to have any scratches on the RR quarter panel

Thanks... I'll keep you posted if/when deal occurs! Appreciate the depth of info here. Hope to join the beastly wagon club within a year or two when my friend sells.

^^ it seems like majority of recent wagon listings are all E63s? The e55 wagons are finally showing their age?

Perhaps people are hanging onto their E55s? I know I want one more than the 63 due to supercharger, which I prefer for altitude in CO.

I think you are correct, most enthusiasts seem to like the easy to modify E55k engine over the E63.
I think you are seeing more E63 wagons come up for sale due to the 08-09 cars coming off lease and the 07-08s are starting to come off the factory warranty too.

......sorry if this is too off topic. Does anyone have or know where to get carbon fiber rear difuser for the E55 wagon. Sometimes, I try to make sure the mods I want are available before I actually buy a car. Thanks.

Ted,
Nobody has produced a diffuser for our cars yet. I have seen one car with the factory plastic piece (between the exhaust) wrapped in the DiNoc dry carbon fiber, but that is the only car I have seen or heard of at this point. With under 350 AMG wagons being produced, there are probably not a lot of people willing to deal with the R&D costs for such a limited market.

torn!!

I'm torn between the E55 and the E63. I like all the nav, sat, bluetooth that the newer model offers. I've been searching for modded amg wagons and this has me drooling!!!

If you want a car you can mod, I would lean toward the E55. The kompressor motors are easier/cheaper to modify. You can't go wrong with either car though.

A E55 Wagon is one of the few cars, I would sell my 2005 CLK55 for. FASN, your car looks fantastic.
