Nice rides....is the E55 faster than the E63 or that white one was tuned?

that is the same seller who had the black e63 wagon posted on here and it changed different ebay seller names but same two guys... all their listings seem to involve shill bidders and their "inventory" seems to be in rough condition.

that is a plus but i agree with you if it is not disclosed in the listing and the car needs a new rear diff and brakes all around and everything else in-between it should not command top dollar and i too would be very frustrated if i won and wound up finding out after the fact.
same thing happened with another e63 wagon on here... carriage house had it listed as a cpo unit for $56k+ or something to that effect and couldn't move it... sent it to auction and a boutique seller picked it up and sold to an mbworld member in maine (iirc). weird how one seller sits on it for months and another sells in a few days.

the santa barbara one seems to be the best value at the moment if you can get it for just a hair less than what it is listed for... would have to see it in person to really know or have an independent ppi the car.
#866
Agreed. It's already been purchased by a member here and he was looking for a shipper last week. I would've been all over that car had it not been black. That's the one color I'll never purchase again in my life.

hahaha... i have owned more than my fair share of black cars. it is not a second car but a second job... you have to be on top of it in an obsessive manner and it only looks good two times during the course of ownership... the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

The BIP E55 tune yielded 32rwhp which would make the cars pretty close on paper.
I still think the E55 is stronger stock and the performance gap widens even more as cooling and breathing mods are added.

The white one had a tune, but that was it. The E55 was rated at 469hp from the factory and the E63 at 507hp or a difference of 38hp.

I can only speak for myself, but I'd rather own the E63 since it's the newer car. That big block V8 has gobs of low end torque. I also prefer the 7-speed tranny of the E63 vs the 5-speed on the E55. And the styling on the car is more aggressive. And was Bluetooth standard on those?
OTOH there are some maintenance items like front brakes that are MUCH more expensive on the E63. And I think the dynamic seats were not available on the E63 but could be wrong on that.
Now, if I were looking to modify the car for more power, the E55 is the one to own since you can get from pretty fast to stupid fast and have a reliable car for less than $5000. Try that with an E63.

I usually keep my cars for many years (still have my 1981 w123 that took me every day to college almost twenty years ago) and even though I do not consider them an investment, I would like to think that the car I buy could eventually become some sort of classic

I think it comes down to preference. I had an e63 wagon and now have a 63 sedan. I am big fan of normal aspiration but the things you can do with a 55 are scary. 507 ponies is plenty enough for me though.

unless i am building a dedicated 'project car' i have no interest in going any further than oem+ so the e63 suits my needs and wants very well but on the flip side the discount in pricing is almost enough to encourage anyone to compare the two because it leaves enough on the table to 'mod' (upgrade) and be on par or further ahead than the model which superseded it.
