Who can help me price my 2008 E63 Capri Blue/Cashmere/Burl int Wagon (1 of 6) - CA car - 97K miles - all the usual options + 3rd row

Have my eye on a 14 White Wagon so it might be time to move on to my next AMG - always garaged - no deadbolt issues - all maintenance records - owned since '14 - purchased car in SD and brought to Bay Area

I love it ! I would want to set mine up exactly like that !
What would be a reasonable price to pay, $35k -$37k?

32k and less than that if the head bolts haven't been replaced.

Well, I can provide one reference point. The asking price is more than I paid for a 2006 E55 wagon in the fall of 2011 from RBM Mercedes in Atlanta. Same mileage on the cars. Mine was CPO with perfect books and records and perfect condition. And the lower price included the full buyout to 3 years of MB factory CPO warranty.

So to me it seems overpriced. That said, the supply of clean, low mile w211 AMG wagons is rather small these days, so perhaps the value of the remaining examples is increasing? And of course the economy these days is a bit more bubbly than it was back near the turn of the decade.

Make sure you are familiar with the failure modes and rates of the m156 engine before jumping in.

If you are looking for a daily driver, it's a big price jump to the least costly w212 E63 wagons. They currently start in the upper $50s. So there isn't much of a middle ground if you are looking for a fast wagon.

Agreed, not a fan of the look.

One interesting note. The build sheet the seller has included in the photos shows the optional burl walnut wood trim. But the car has black ash, the standard fitment. So either the wood trim, or possibly the entire interior, has been changed out at some point.

You're correct, the last owner did all this. Here is what it looked like a few months ago before it was totally screwed up. I wouldn't touch this car.

i disagree, the visual modifications are completely reversible and a matter of the next owners taste. All the nicks and scratches are a bargining chip and easy fix. To say you wouldn't touch the car is pretty bold, granted you already have a s211 but if one were in the market for a low mile 63 I would have to say this would be at the top of the list for most.

You are correct, the changes are easily reversible. But it's a matter of economics. Do you really want to pump $5k or so into the car after buying at that price point? The seller is asking 44% of sticker price for a car that is just about to turn 10 years old, has 5 owners, and spent its first 9 years in the rust belt.

The current owner purchased the car in August 2016 and has put less than 1500 miles on it. Would like to know the story there.

BTW, I am not in the market for one, just a grumpy old man that occasionally shares my opinion with the world.

In fairness we all have different standards of perfection and quality. I have very high standards and there are many things about this car that your less careful eye may not see. For example, looking closely at the photos I see the paint has been aggressively cut and polished at some point in this car's life. The front fascia clearly has been repainted because the primer showing through the scratches is not the original Spies Hecker type used by Mercedes-Benz. For any buyer the condition of the paint should be of concern because paint damage is not reversible-- and it will be harder to inspect since the front panels are now covered with Xpel. The car's history, lack of complete service records, and modifications are all the reasons why it would be at the bottom of my list.

Could you let us know what in the photos indicates the paint has been cut and polished? Just trying to learn a new skill.

Primarily by the inconsistencies in the orange peel between the body's straight and curved surfaces as well as the generally flat appearance of the paint. The straight body surfaces appear to be worked more aggressively which is a common mistake made by detailers or body repair technicians. It is also not clear if the seller's detail photograph of the rear license plate recess is showing a burn or scratch on the edge (paint is thinnest on edges and more susceptible to burns). As an aside, the swirl marks that were left inside of the license plate recess show a complete lack of care and attention to detail by someone without enough skill using a buffer so they focused on the easier straight surfaces.

2007 E63, WDBUH77X37B091249, 55k miles. Exact same spec as mine (flint over black with birdseye trim). Asking $40k, which seems steep to me unless headbolts and cams have been done -- maybe the relatively low mileage makes up for it?

See posts #1764 and #1766 regarding this car. This thread is becoming an S211 registry and resource of sorts and this is why its so helpful when people take the time to include the VINs when they add cars to this thread-- thank you for including the VIN, Shivatron. This car has since been modified with ROW air boxes, K&N filters, and an X-pipe. However, there is NO mention of any recent service(s). This is why I am always weary of cars that have modifications, incomplete service records, or multiple owners within a short time period.

The owner is clearly an enthusiast and likely reading this thread. Hopefully they will explain the car's mechanical condition and service history to any serious buyers.
