ML 63 AMG

Has anyone else hear about MB will be making a GL 63 AMG ???

I expect to see it in summer 07 as an 08MY, not earlier.

MB has to be careful with the GL. Maybe the release of the 63 depends on sales success, say when the GL sales go down the creek the 63 won't be released.


I think this sounds logical.

But I too doubt we'll see it this year as it was not mentioned in MBUSA recent press release, nor in the earlier one.

Mercedes would be smart to concentrate on getting that GL320 CDI/Bluetec to market and make sure it can be sold in Cali/New York first. Then bring in a higher-margin GL550 and then a GL63 AMG if they must. A GL63 is just as pointless as the R63 IMO though.

The GL320 CDI is not coming to California before late 2008. Better late than never. It took years to convince MB to look at diesels in the USA again, back in 2000. Then they refused to use particle filters. Now they have the competition breathing down their necks as several manufacturers besides MB plans diesels in the USA (Honda, Toyota, BMW, VW among them).

The wait might be shorter.

Looks like VW will sell the Touareg diesel in all 50 states. Why doesn't MBUSA do the same? Did they opt out?

I totally agreed. An AMG version of GL and R class just makes no sense. And how fast can you really go with those 2 hogs anyway. 5.5 seconds or 5 seconds to 60mph isn't exactly going to be that breathtaking.

I have a feeling that the GL450 sales is not meeting their expectations, and before they launch the GL63 I believe they will launch the GL550 or so...isn't it getting comfusing with all the 16 models ranges and over 100 different models to choose from!!!!

Oh the GL is meeting sales expectations at around 2K+ units a month and in some months it outsold the ML and of course it easily outsells the R-Class.

...and with the GL450 getting recognition as "Motor Trend's 2007 Sport Utility of the Year", it's going attract even more buyers and exceed sales expectations easily.

It seems like to me that one of the AMG editors stated on the AMG Lounge forum that there would not be a GL63. I guess we can't believe everything we hear.

AMG shuttled us around hockenheimring and the hotel in an R63. at least it was nice inside.

one question WHY? Its heavy it wont handle as good as ML due to weight its much bigger, WHY? and if it will be more expensive than ML63 i dont think it will sell.

The GL63 will sell. Why? Because it costs more than the GL450. Sadly that's how a lot of the AMGs around here get sold. I just saw a E55 the today driven by a middle aged woman...now take into consideration where I am. There is salt and snow on the ground and it is about...10 degrees outside! Also, there are two G55s. One is driven by an old man, the other another middle aged woman. I don't think either of them have used more than 50% of their cars' power. I've tried to get them to race...the older guy just shook his head at me!

Anyways, all I'm trying to say is...some people will buy it because of the price and the "presitge" they think the AMG badge gives them.

I remember hearing, "no GL63!" but then there were those spy pics of what would be a AMG CL! So...?

Really, says who? The last time an AMG official was asked about it they said nope to a GL63.

Ditto...a recent article with MB stated that there is no plan for a GL63.

This is no GL63 planned but all I can say is there is a option that will be released for 08 just not a 6.3 u shouldn't be disappointed!
