It isnt so bad, it isnt the most reliable car, but owning it makes you forget about that, in the winter I nearly had bald tires, lots of grip, I even turned off esp numerous times to screw around very controlable car. When it rains I dont even slow down, unbeliveable grip. The performance is great for a 5000lbs truck, you'll be able to smoke plenty small sports car. I like the car a lot, the interior quality and the comfort, just the reliability of the electronic and engine components could be better.

Not a reliable vehicle but def bad *** and fun... I didnt really start having problems till I rounded the 90k mile mark, and my engine is fine(knock on wood) I currently need to change the springs, and I think fix a hub bearing... and get an allignment

Id watch out for the X5s... they have a NASTY habit of blowing airbags... they are in court for a number of them, happened to a friend in LI... he went over a speed bump and the whole drivers side curtain blew, drivers door and driver's side rear door as well

This car has had rocker arms replaced, lifters twice, a perpetual carbon build up problem that MB's corporate tech support's best fix was to run techron every other tank, brakes and tires every 18K miles, and the list goes on not to mention the latest disaster that cost my extended warranty co $9000. This car only has 65K miles on it. The 1981 Datsun 310 that I bought at auction for $1300 in High school was more reliable than this car. MB is definitely off the list for me.
I still have my ML but just purchased an E class and they are doing some work on it. I believe there service department to be a little on the suck *** side. they are replacing an entire brake master cylinder for a little pedal squish sound that is identical to a recall for cars from 03-05.
Anyways, next time you face trouble with your ML55, give me a PM, Ill tell you some local shops that are SIGNIFICANTLY better then dealerships. Also not sure if your interested but some local owners are getting together July 9th for a bbq in Newport RI, we have some 12 or 13 cars with owners from NH to CT coming...

I think that the $9K worth of work was something they came across while trying to diagnose the stalling problem. Whether it needed to be done or not, I have no idea. I def. don't have alot of confidence in their techs, although the Service Manager at least knows how to deal with customers properly. I usually use Euro Plus Auto in newton, who does a good job with the car but I needed loaner, etc for this issue and took it to MB. Best case scenario is the car to not have significant problems until next year and then I dump it for something more reliable.
