Turbo S o-60 4.8
Ml 5.0

Cayenne Turbo S = 0
MB ML63 = 1
ML63
1. Looks a little like mom's mini van
2. Don't like tacked on fender flares
3. Looks like they tried to make the front end look a little like a Hummer
4. Don't like aluminum side rails
4. Plastic looking dashboard. At least the Porsche is covered in leather. At $85,500 you would think they could throw some leather over the plastic.
Styling: toss-up

The Cayenne is going to have a facelift and the new model will be out around February 2007, 5 months after the ML63 is available in the USA. The horsepower of the $90k base Cayenne Turbo is rumored to be increased from 450 HP to 500 HP. Who knows what the HP will be in the future Turbo S.
So, how long will the ML63 hold the crown of the SUV with the fastest straight line acceleration?
Face it, both the Cayenne and ML63 are incredible SUV's. If you are looking for maximum performance from an SUV you can't go wrong with either. But neither will dominate the other in all measures of performance.
The Cayenne wins the prestigious handling dept. It has advantages in brakes, traction and drive acuracy by a nose length
All other chapters are won by the AMG, that as a result of lower weight, comes out as the more agile vehicle"
0-200 Km/h: ML wins
Comfort: ML wins
Track (with corners) run: ML wins (so much for better handling of the Porker).
Game, set and match for the ML. Better luck next time Phil

Porsche is quieter inside at all speeds except passing
Porsche wins the slalom (How does such a "Porker" manage that?). You would think with all that excess weight that hog would hit all the cones. Wonder why the faster, lighter ML63 couldn't keep up through the cones? A win on a track has as much to do with power as it does with handling. And with the power advantage of the ML63 it wins around the track. But true back and forth handling through the slalom really shows which vehicle has the more "sports car" like ability.
Porsche out brakes the ML
I don't see the knock out punch you seem to see.
As I said before, both vehicles are the best performing SUV's on the planet. Neither is vastly superior to the other. And a more powerful and facelifted Cayenne is just around the corner. The ML63 may have a short reign. I am sure that you and I would be perfectly happy with either vehicle.

Also wouldn't disagree with the overall win to the ML63. The $111,000 for the Cayenne Turbo S is enough to give the win to the $85,500 ML63. Porsche has had the top performing SUV since they introduced the Cayenne Turbo in 2003. Now Mercedes tops it with their 2007. What will the 2008 Cayenne that is showing up in February have under the hood?
As far as the weight issue, if Mercedes had choosen to make their ML a true off-roader you know it would have weighed more. For Porsche to have a competent off-roader that also handles like a sport car.......well that is quite an engineering feat.
I have been promised a test drive when the ML63 shows up at my local dealership.

turbo s wins braking ?

They are both extraordinary SUV's. Nothing else compares to them. The Cayenne is a four year old model and the ML is brand new. The ML should to be better. Wait until the redesigned Cayenne shows up early next year.

Resale value
For the last two years Kelly Blue Book has predicted that the Porsche Cayenne would have one of the highest resale values in its class.
Don't know about the ML63, but the ML350 and ML500 weren't on this list.

Dependability
#1 in the most recent JD Powers survey was the Porsche brand. Near the bottom of the list was the Mercedes brand. And keep in mind I have owned Mercedes and currently own one.

you have no adequate justification that its better than the cayenne.
ml63 has 4 whell drive split 40/60 . i think thats a point
(1) You can also select either high range or low range with the Cayenne. (2) You can also lock the center differential for maximum traction in the Cayenne. (3) Lastly you adjust the height of the Cayenne all the way up to a maximum ground clearance of 10.75 inches (which is 2.21 inches above the normal level.
