Just Traded in my P turbo 4 an ML63

1st post.

Just traded in my Cayenne turbo for an ML63.....Would have got another pt but couldnt see having the same body style 3 more years....then came the ML....It is nice very nice...different creature all together...It actually is smaller and tighter More sports car feeling. The engine happens slower than you d expect.I think it is a breathing issue.....open up the pipes and the response will improve, it does not have the Womp the the E55 has..yet it still posts a sub 5 sec 0-60...the rear squats under hard accel, kinda cool.Im told that Brabus is coming out with an exhaust system at SEMA next month...will scoff one of those up quickly.
Anyone know if K and N has a filter out yet?

The Stereo is a major dissapointment...what they call a sub woofer is a toy.
Will have just the sub replaced soon.
It is much flater than the porsche, it corners extemly well, and the balance is perfect....Interior is top mercedes fit and finish, however somehow there was more going on in the cayenne.
The safety factor is felt in this car, the a/b and c pillars are rock solid.
My car is black and all the chrome going on is just too much.I Removed all nomenclature and swapped ot the chrome trim on the door bumper guards for all black from an ml 350. The car is much more subtle now...will swap out the running boards too, if I can find a flared rocker.
All in all I'm Quite happy with the car, just need to get used to the shape a little more....Needs a program chip for keeping the suspension down low!

I agree I am going this week to redo the stereo. I think I am going with the JL Audio cleansweep and Focal speakers. Who did you get to swap out the bumper guards. Was it difficult? I also would like to car to stay a little lower.

Welcome!

I love to hear the comments from folk who have switched to MB from another brand. Your comparisons offer insights to some of what the Porsche has to offer. As for me I like the HK premium sound system in my ML. It's a big improvement over my '04 E55. Especially the base...weird isn't it. The entertainment options are endless. I never know what to do, listen to Sat radio, an audio book in the CD changer, The Bob & Tom radio show podcast on my IPOD, or the 99 song MP3 cd in the single CD slot. Plus if I'm stationary waiting to pick up one of my kids, I've even climbed into the back and watched bits of a movie.

If the MB sound system is a letdown for you then the Cayenne's stereo must be pretty amazing! (For $115K it oughta be!)

I'm also anxious to here how your performance additions work out. I've yet to really push mine hard, but so far it seems pretty damn quick. I know there's not a lot of tuning options out there yet for the 63 engines but they're coming!

Most importantly you have to know that...

WE NEED PICTS! Come on man...show us this bad boy!

Congratulations !

My salesman told me that there is a fellow here in Vancouver that can program the default height setting lower (or higher). The computer will still react to whatever adjustments it may want to do but when at rest, it will sit at the new programmed height.

I guess if he's figured it out, there must be others who have too?

Door bumper guards come off with one screw each 4 pcs. $199.00 at mercedes manhattan.

Another SORE spot are Mirrors, or lack of adequate size...they are really scary.......if you want to drive aggressive you cannot trust them, they do not show a big enough swath of whats going on behind you.

will start with just a new subwoofer and decide on side speakers next...they really cheaped out on the amount of info that the radio gives out on the ipod and satelite radio displays....really basic info if none at all.

BUT! Still no regrets......If you took this chassis as is and removed the body and replaced it with a Rally car body....ie lancia delta/ rothman porsche etc.
You would have a real Paris/Dakar racewagon....it is undeniably a viscious rugged all season supercar underneath....It is a sleeper as it is due to all the other mere mortal ML's out there!

I have a feeling this section of ML63 posting is going to grow quickly as they are really starting take delivery now....

My post page says cannot post pics!!!!whats up!

Thanks for your update!!...yes I hope there will be lots more people sharing info here as more and more ML63's are sold.

Regarding posting pics...there used to be some directions at the top of this forum but I don't find them now. However, going by memory ( Oh Oh ) you can do it this way: 1.) Log into www.imageshack.us 2.) Click Browse and select the photo you want to post, then be sure and select "resize image" and the box just below it 3.) click "host it" 4.) on the next page that comes up (it may take a while) left click on the url to the left of "Hotlink for forums (1)" and then right click on the same url and select "copy". Then, in the message box on this forum right click and select "paste" and that should paste the url here. Then click "post reply" and the photo should be posted.

I just did a test of the procedure outlined above and it works. And of course after you've pasted the url for your photo in the "post message box" here you can add text etc.

The sub is in the driver side rear quarter panel. If you kill the first aid kit there is room for a 10” maybe even a 12”. There is also room by the spare or under the rear passenger side seat for an amp. I am pulling the entire system apart.

Still driving and enjoying my Cayenne Turbo and Carrera S. Haven't driven the ML63 to compare. Both the Cayenne and ML63 are the top of their game.
I am not anti ML63. I had a deposit on one for over a year. I just found a new Cayenne Turbo that a dealer was motivated to sell for $78,000 last February and decided to cancel my ML63 order. No regrets, I got a lot of bang for my buck.

I am very happy with my choice and hope that all the new ML63 owners enjoy their vehicles as much as I enjoy mine.

By the way, Motorvision, a German car video test review magazine compared the ML63 and the Cayenne Turbo S and here is a summary or their results:

They listed the plus and minus for each vehicle

Cayenne Turbo S
+ Performance
+ Off Road
+ Top Speed
- Basic price
- Weight

ML63 AMG
+ Cost
+ Acceleration
- Performance
- Weight
- Consumption

They gave a slight nod to the Cayenne.

there is another German video floating around Youtube that shows them both together and gave the nod to the ML over the cayenne because of the price and similar characteristics, Ill try and find the video... for those of you looking to do some stealth stereo installs, check out my ML55 for some ideas... Some MB techs still wonder what option package my sub came in(just look at my sound domain site in my sig)
