ML63 AMG, SL55 AMG, plus some Italian cars
After having both, the ML63 is much better!

Of course the price difference is a hugh issue.

X5 4.6iS is the direct competitor and far superior to the ML55 in terms of handling. Straightline speed they are both the same. Can't say the same when comparing to the ML63, however

Even though I never driven a ML55...I gotta think the ML63 is leaps and bounds ahead as far as performance goes. It may sound petty, but that's one reason I didn't choose the E63 to replace my E55. I want my next generation car to be appreciably faster than my old car. E55 and E63 are nearly identical in performance. I'm sure the ML55 is an awesome car, but I won't have to worry about getting beat by one at a stop light.

not to mention ride, refinement, interior etc...

right now i believe mercedes makes 2 (new) cars worthy of the name, s65 and ml63

the first time i drove the new ml (350 loaner) i couldnt believe how much nicer it was than the old one, i thought i was trippin , it drives like a raised e class, they did a nice job on the new ml

Same thing happened to me. I had my CLS500 in for service, I never thought too much for the ML's and after a few weeks in the ML350, I put a deposit on the ML63
