C6 kill!

So, I was at a light turning left. There was a guy in a C6 convertible on my right. Both lanes turned left. It was late with no other cars on the road. Light turns green, we both turn. About a quarter mile from the light the two lanes merge into one. I am about one half to one car ahead while turning since i am on the inside. Well, I see and hear him accelerate to make sure he is in front at the merging of the two lanes. I hit it to the floor and I see him also try his darndest to get by me. Both vehicles are screaming but guess what....I slowly pull away and at 90-100 he is defeated and he falls behind me at the merge.

Wish I could have read his mind......"damn got beat by an suv?????????"

having raced (in a clk55 and 997S) and driven a ml63 i believe that it couldve happened. i dunno about pulling ahead, but staying ahead yeah, why not, maybe he was in the wrong gear or it was a 4spd and you caught him out of his power band.

My grammar is the only part of my post that can be questioned. (delusional episodes)


Even the baddest stock SUV on the planet cannot beat the C6.
Read the specs, drive them both, and get back to reality.

Just because you passed someone doesn't mean they were racing you.
I'm not even aware of half the guys that are "racing" me on the street.

-The ML63 is the King of the SUV world.

-The C6 platform is the the King of the Sportscar world.

-A 1000cc sportbike is the King of the Street.

I gladly welcome anyone to challenge to the above statements.

You'll get no arguments from me on the C6; if they are a cruise missle the ML63 is an atom bomb.

Kinda reminds me of the famous segment aired on British TV a few years back. They were trying to give people an idea of just how fast a Formula One car really is. They took three cars; a Ford Escort, a Porsche 911, and the F1 car.

[Disclaimer: this was a number of years back and I'm certainly butchering the details]

Let's say the average F1 lap time was in the 2:00 vicinity. They send the Escort out and give it a 45 second head start. They release the Porsche and wait another 30 seconds. Then they unleash the F1 beast; it gobbles up both street cars and beats them across the line by a huge margin.

Likewise, it's tough to know the intentions of the C6 driver -- or his skill level. However, when it comes time to haul my dog, family, or motorcycle trailer -- while doing it in comfort, style, and with the awesome "Sensurround®" effect of the ML63 engine -- I know which I'd rather be sitting in. Besides which, I can't even fit into the cockpit of a C6...

Lets assume the road tests are right. Some ML's could approach 0-60 in 4.7 and 13.2 and a C6 around 4.3 and 12.9. It is quite reasonable that the C6, by the time he realized the ML was giving it, had no chance to complete a pass with the lane ending. Most peoples reaction times are >.5 seconds.
The way the ML turns on and explodes foreward is a lotta fun.

It was a convertable C6...that's slower than the coupe right? Plus the fact that with the ML63 you just mash the peddle and the car does the rest, it's believable.

I am very impressed with the C6 and it's improvements over the C5. However my friend, I think you are forgetting the 911 platform (GT3 for example) and the NSX platform (fine tuned by Senna himself).

............I tried to understand what you were saying but I couldn't. It is entirely possible that the driver in the C6 was not trying to race. However shocking as it may seem to you, the ML63 can be faster from 0-60 in a straight line than a C6 non Z06 corvette. Especially if the C6 is a convertible. The days of thinking that the SUV next to you cannot be faster than your sports car are gone.

Gotta add my .02 the C6 vert weighs only 20lbs.. more than the coupe, not any slower...

I have the 05 A4 w/3.15 gears beat many a cars to date, they have more than half a dozen A4's w/3.15 gearing BONE STOCK running low 12.50's in the 1/4, the m6 is even faster w/3.42 gearing BONE STOCK they have plenty of 1/4 slips over at Vette forum w/12.25-12.40'ish w/good driving no doubt....

Having said that I certainly have been around long enough to know anything can happen on the streets, the C6 looses traction very easily in this colder weather...

But from the way the original poster described this race I have to call or he raced a C5 w/an idiot at the wheel....There's NO WAY you would have pulled away at higher speeds like you described the C6 has SICK top end power pulls like crazy at 75-130mph... not buying it sorry..

I 'm telling you, he had it pegged trying to beat me for several seconds to the merge and he couldnt. I watched his headlights out of the corner of my right eye. I pulled slowly on him and he gave up at the merge.

Now, did he start the acceleration in too high of a gear, I cant say.

All I'm saying is that it was fun to have him submit to the ML63, whatever the circumstance. I'm sure he was shocked to say the least.

Just to be having this discussion says alot, huh?

You admittedly say this happened late at night, also you pulled away at 90-100mph.

It was dark out, you must've of mistaken a C5 for a newer C6, if you pulled on him like you described the guy must of shifted from 1-to 5th and bogged......even a C5 would eat you alive on the top end, you out way a C5, or C6, by probably 1700-2000lbs....

The guy was either not aware you were serious & just toying w/you, or in an older C5 that was verrrry pooorly driven.....

Anybody in LA w/ML63 I'll gladly race ya to prove my point pm me and we'll set the details..

NSX? I would take the Z06 any day (he did say C6 platform) and I assume he meant not sending it to a shop for a few mod's.

The next Z06 is going to be killer, supercharged.

You guys in the US may not know what a Mitsubushi EVO IX is (340bhp medium sized rally-based sedan), but it's a very quick car and I came across one yesterday being driven 'enthusiastically'.

We both joined a 2 mile twin-lane carriageway and accelerated from around 30mph, he was on his own in the car whilst I had 4 people on board plus some luggage. Anyway, the ML63 pulled away from him - we stopped accelerating at around 140mph, then did it all over again at the next stretch of road. The ML63 was clearly the quicker of the two.

Eventually we went our seperate ways with the EVO driver giving me the thumbs up for an enjoyable battle.

I'm not familiar with a C6, but perhaps somebody could look up the performance figures and compare with an EVO.

p.s. just checked for myself and it would seem that the quoted performance figures for the C6 Corvette would make it nigh on identical in performance to the ML63. For the ML63 I had heard that Car and Driver tested it at 0-60mph in 4.6, 0-100 in 11.5 and standing qtr of 13.2 secs @107mph.

C6 test in R&T (below) would seem to confirm the parity of their performance, then add in the fact that the ML driver 'only' has to put his foot down rather than worry about changing gear correctly and in most circumstances that would point to the likelihood of our original poster's story being correct.
