I haven't noticed, but has anyone brought up the axle ratio differences?

Jeep - 3.73
ML63 - 3.45

That makes quite a bit of difference from a dig, no?

I think there's better cars out there to signify that you won the lottery. I doubt the Cayenne Turbo S would be on any lottery winner's first choice list.

agree on that. Having come from CTT to ML 63, I do agree interior of Porsche is better. Look at the way the carpets fit, look at the seat bases, and the dead pedal area, look at the seat tracks from the back seat area, etc. These are not performance issues, but indicate areas where dollars are saved. The MB uses standard ML bits and parts, even the way the extra seat adjustments are tacked on at the front, and not integrated into the seating. Also, the suspension and off-road gear underneath is clearly beefier/better on Cayenne and frankly you do pay for that, whether or not you use it. The reason I went for 63 is simply this: I would have gladly paid $10k more for a Turbo S, but frankly $20k was not worth it. Having said that, the local dealers here are knocking $15k off the Turbo S, and I honestly think Porsche overpriced it. People will pay silly amounts for 911's, including used ones, to get the image, but not Cayenne's and I think Porsche blew the pricing, when for most people the 63 gives them similar on-road performance, and they don't need the $10k worth of stuff they don't see or don't use.

I agree with that assessment having driven both. In the same light, one of the disappointments in going from my E55 wagon to the ML63 was the difference in the quality and level of exectution in the interior. The E55 was beautifully finished, and the ML63 -- though nice -- is not quite as classy as the old ride...

I agree with you. If the ML63 would have been out before the Turbo S, I probably would have ended up trading my CTT for that. I am glad I got the Turbo S though, I prefer the turbos over naturally aspirated when it comes to fun factor. I bought the ML63 for my woman to drive around due to it's high safety ratings, and also so that when I drove her car I would have the acceleration I wanted. I am sending my Turbo S to evo to do the GT700 upgrade 3rd week of this month. I wonder when there will be performance upgrades for the ML63.

Shoulda qualified that; how about the perfect "I won the lottery but need a daily driver" kinda car? My personal Lotto car would have to be the Carrerra GT...

Of course, if I won the lottery I'd probably have to have a fleet -- S63/65, CL63, 911 GT3 or RS -- you get the idea...

Hehe, yah, thats a great choice. Last time I took my 911 Turbo Cab in for service there was a black Carerra GT there getting an oil change. Very nice car and only one I have seen in person. I was told it was one of the Dollar General owners car.

Great story; I grew up in Knoxville and remember their ads:
"Who says a dollar, don't buy much anymore?"

If cost is no object I'd buy two Carrerra GTs and display them side by side; one with all the bodywork removed, the other fully clothed...

We can all dream, right?

What quality it had so much interrior noise it wasnt even funny. W164 body is completely on a different level against W163! and belive me i had them all, 98 ml320,2000 ml430, 2002 ml55! They were nice cars but right now im driving 06 ml350 and its waaaaaaaay better as it should ofcourse.

Sorry if that wasn't clear, but if you reread my post you'll see that what I said was:
"...one of the disappointments in going from my E55 wagon to the ML63 was the difference in the quality and level of exectution in the interior. The E55 was beautifully finished, and the ML63 -- though nice -- is not quite as classy as the old ride..."

The "OLD RIDE" was the E55 wagon, which had one of the nicest interiors I've seen. A great balance of top-notch materials, great clean design elements, and subtle touches (I loved the black birds-eye maple)...

I like the ML63 enough to order one, but was just pointing out one thing that -- IMHO -- might be improved.

I wonder if the people who posted earlier in this thread will come back and use the same adjectives to say that the black SRT8 dusted/spanked/killed the red SRT8. Clearly therefore red SRT8's need to 'get real' and stop 'kidding themselves' that they are as quick as black ones...

...or maybe it just shows how these videos are just a bit of 'good fun'

It would seem there are large variations in performance between one jeep SRT8 and the next. I wonder if this is true for the ML63 as well? Anybody try driving more than one ML63, or raced two of them?

The 2008 Cayenne Turbo will make things a lot more even with the ML63. The pricing between the two is similar. And......the 500 HP 2008 Turbo is slightly faster that the 2006 Turbo S. So, you will get Turbo S performance for Turbo/ML63 prices.

Imagine how fast the rumored upcoming 550 HP Turbo S will be.

Wonder what Mercedes will do to top it?
