All over this board, not just this forum knows that the step from 55 to 63 is more like a side-step. With your modded 55 it's definitely a backward step. There is absolutely no sense in you getting a E63 at all if you already have the modded E55 unless your lease is up.

ML63 is a BIG step forward for the M-class, there was never a ML55 in the new body style and the old ML55 is a dog compared with the ML63.

You already had the SRT8, if all you cared is 1/4 mile times, going to the ML63 is again not an upgrade, it's a side step. With your modded SRT8, it's more like a backward step for 1/4mile times.

BUT, if you like everyone here in this forum, care for much more than just 1/4mile times, then going from the SRT8 to the ML63 IS an upgrade.

Performance-wise, stock both cars are pretty even, but the 2 cars are for 2 different market segments. I get the same thing in my Porche board, the Z06 is always being compared with the 997 Turbo, their performance are just about even but again they are for different market segments.

You can be as cocky as you want to in here but believe me when I say no matter what time your SRT8 posted, I am sure there will be at least one modded 4 banger Civic that can beat it cleanly, how's that gonna make you feel?

You are a new member, and we loved to have new ones coming in but we do prefer you to be less offensive.

Cheers mate, and safe driving.
Hey Whoopsy.........didnt mean to hurt your tender sensitive feelings...mate.

I do believe...for some reason, you are repeating the comparison I made...... I did state comparing the ML63 to the SRT8 is like comparing an E55 to a SVT Mustang Cobra......two different performance vehicles with two different agendas......meaning the ML63 is a luxury performance vehicle.....the Jeep is a typical American hot rod....nice but austere compared to a luxury SUV such as the ML63. The Jeep was created with one thing in mind......and stitched leather and a steering wheel heater was not high on the design criteria.

I own an ML 63. Before I bought it, I also drove the Jeep SRT8, yes its fast, but with the right driver, the ML will spank that hunk of junk no problem, thats the bottom line. The ML guy didnt know what he was doing. That said, I challenge anyone here with GC SRT8 to come race me, Then well see whos faster, Im in So Cal Any Takers?
I did not put out this challenge....one of the members did...I did not say the Jeep would spank any (ML63) . The fact is the magazines have under rated the Jeep SRT8....and your flat wrong..... do a little research and you will find........stock for stock no Jeep SRT8 is running the real world times the ML63 is posting. The cruel hard reality is the Jeep is much "quicker" than the ML63, but in my opinion not faster on the top end......but in California we dont have to many autobahns, so being quicker has the advantage. In addition let us not forget the Jeep SRT8 has a skid pad of .89g.......hhhhmmm thats M5 territory!

I believe before you take upon yourself to be the hall monitor for "cocky attitude" you should do some reading and research as to why this thread was started and why the discussion has come to this point!

BTW....you dont need to drive your point about getting blown away by a Civic or losing. I designed, built, owned and drove a 604 cid Yates Ford 1100hp/980ftlbs jet boat that ran the 1/4mile in 8.20@ 125mph ....and I can state to you I certainly know what it is like to spend alot of money, not take first place, and have to give up that all important bragging right.

Sgtstanko, so I see my Civic comment touched a nerve, sorry about that.

We all know you are responding to Blue Monster's challenge 2 weeks ago when you necro this thread, Kokanee is just pointing out the obvious, you SRT8 is 'lightly' modded, and it will not be a fair fight, not to mention you probably have a lot more experience than Blue Monster.

If you think your mods ar so light that it doesn't matter, just show up in a SCCA Solo, try and enter the showroom stock class and see if they let you. More than likely with your aftermarket converter you will be bumped into the Street Modified class which is 3rd highest one.

You as a newbie to this board, I was just pointing out to your manners. You have a fast truck, for all intents and purposes it's going to be faster than all the stock Ml63s in here. More than likely with a few more select mods you are going to blow away my Porsche also. I know you'd loved to have the respect that comes with it, but being cocky is not gonna win that. However as you say you were former LE, that might explains you attitude.

To SGT ,Why is it so important to you that the jeep is quicker, perhaps i should have saved £40,000($70,000) and bought one instead!

Have you guys read this month's car and driver where they tested a turbocharged Jeep SRT8 (page 97)?

0-60mph: 3.7 seconds
0-100mph: 9.0 seconds
1/4 mile: 12.2 @ 116mph
Roadholding, 300-ft: 0.90G

0 to 60 in freaking 3.7 seconds and 116 trap speed! That is pretty crazy numbers... considering that you can buy an SRT8 for like 40,000$ now.

The only SUV that would be faster is a tuned Cayenne TT (either EVO, Gemball, Sportec to ~700hp)... the Sportec one reached 200mph in a recent test, but thats 30,000$+ in mods.

Whose gonna meet me there? I promise its not that fast!

I sadly have to agree to this. ML55's Painted red brakes are just ML430/ ML500 brakes hahaha.

I did meet SGTSTANKO, and he is a pretty cool guy. We shot the **** a lil bit and I went home.

On the way home... I attempted to make a top speed run for all my fellow brethren, and ran out of room at about 140...

Im going to have to do that in the middle of the night on the freeway.. there is just no other way.

The saga continues...

Hey BLUE!! Good meeting you.....like I told you I think if you hook up with Dan @Harmanmotive headers would be in the future really quick! We might even come up with a cold air intake.....what the heck!

San Diego next week! ML63 is definetly the cool looking SUV of the Daimler stable!

Powerchip knows Dan very well. Additionally, if Dan's willing to work on headers for the 63's Powerchip will work on software to accomodate them.

RE: Jeep GC SRT-8

I was ready to pull the trigger on a Cayenne or ML, had tested the Cayenne Turbo, but also tested the Jeep SRT-8 on a dare from a friend. I bought it on the spot a couple of weeks ago.

While it is no Benz or Porshe, it has some Mercedes "hand me down" DNA (same trans as E55, from Germany no less), and is an absolute blast for $43K fully loaded.

I have no doubt it will run with a Cayenne Turbo, and will probably keep up with the ML63....to about 90 mph or so. It is an amazing little truck and can make serious speed...be careful, if you drive one you will probably buy it because it offers so much fun for the money.

I don't think you will get any argument here NCE500. The SRT team has done a wonderful job with the Jeep. With the possible exception of clearance issues it is awsome performance for the money. One could argue, that the stock performance of the three vehicles you mention, for all practical purposes are essentially equal.
I did test drive it and found it a blast. I did however choose the ML. If price doesn't factor into it, I think most people would have made the same decision. I can appreciate your feelings for it because I get the same feelings for the ML every time I get in it and step on that pedal.

What a meaningless thread this is. Fellas, who the heck cares whether a hot-rodded Jeep can outrun a stock ML63? So what if it can? At the end of the day, it's still just a Jeep. If we had wanted Jeeps, we all would have bought Jeeps instead of Benzes.
