Finally it's here! Pickup today

I ordered this baby back in the fall of 05 and am going to Calgary today to pick here up (Black/Black). The wait has been ridiculous. I was 2nd on the pre-order list.

My insurance will be $940 (pleasure with full glass), $2000 collision deductible and $1 Million liability - for your interest.

Ordered those LED taillights a few days back - first mod. Even though I repeatedly told them to get me one they are out of stock on the IPOD kit. Bit of rip $$$ on the install but is there a better way?

Will post pics of the pickup soon.

Just got home from a three hour nerve wracking drive through horizontal snowfall with near whiteout at times. First impressions:

A little gas and the back end was coming around (yikes) - fresh layer of snow with no road sand yet in most spots - pooped my pants 30 secs from home when the back end came round to meet the nose at the top of our street. Continentals.

Touchy brakes!!! Came up to a sanding truck on the highway and had to drop from 80 km/hr to 50 in a hurry. Slowly applied the brakes because it was slick but very little was happening. A suggestion of pedal pressure more and the nose dove (mostly on the passenger side) and there was a major grab / controlled skid.

When you take your foot right off the accelerator the ML slows down incredibly fast. Feels like there is a huge amount of drag. Kept checking to make sure the park brake was off.

Obviously, in these conditions I was very light of the gas but I did bip it a little in some dry spots. It was in comfort mode and a very limited attempt but I was still a little underwhelmed. Can't wait for better weather to try again.

As soon as I can I will get the Nokian Hakka 5 SUV sports installed. I originally wanted these but they had only been released in Europe. I lucked out and was able to get a set of 4. We hardly get any snow here (of course wouldn't you know it would happen today) but now I will be prepared.

Linguatronic is a joke. Neither myself, my salesman nor the "specialist" could get it to recognize a single command or phone number. Useless...

You sure are brave driving thru horizontal snow in the stock contis.

I actually like the fact that the car slow down really fast when I take my foot off the gas, feels almost like driving a stick and I feel it gives me great control over the speed I want the car to travel at any given time.

Linguatronic...think we had a discussion on how useless it is a few months ago....

Anyway, congrats on picking the car up and enjoy the beast

Insurance is high here- government monopoly, they stepped in many years ago due to gouging by insurace companies and never got back out. A old man in a small car is cheap. A 500+hp vehicle is expensive. Highest rate my agent has seen. It does include new vehichle replacement if stolen or written off though.
Eye candy- I hope your brakes are like mine- they are much much easier to modulate once broken in (4k) still strong though perhaps I've just gotten used to them.

Interesting Whoopsy. I didn't look to see where you were located. I wonder if its the combination replacement cost policy and the higher limit. That should only account for a total of $600 or so. How long ago did you insure it? Maybe they figured out what it is now. Perhaps my age bracket of 45? Or are they discriminating against me because of where I live. I will ask my agent if a mistake was made.

I found the Linguatronic poor as well until I trained it for my voice, have you gone through that yet? I have my common phone numbers in a list that works quite well for me. I haven't learned how to be affective with NAV yet….

I was out of town at a hockey tournament so I haven't had a chance to play with the Linguatronic and yes Whoopsy you did warn me off it!

Here are some pics of the delivery:

I also ordered a set of those LED lights with the $60 shipping but the box came with a hole and the passenger side is chipped . I will email them and see what they will do.

Yes it was on the high setting,

Observations:

The only worthwhile manual is the thick one.

Side mirrors are too small = poor vis. Folding them in seems a little silly.

I like the AMG steering wheel (sans wood). Was heating an option – seems to be something in the manual about it?

Everything is stiff and precise. Very little body roll.

Bluetooth phone works but the two are constantly needing emotional support to stay together.

Squeaky brakes.

Questions:

Why will they only allow you to surf by folders on mp3 cds when they are loaded behind the command but not in the magazine slots?

How do you get the digital speedo to remain visible? I find the analog dial hard to read at a glance.

-you are correct on the manual

-they sure are small but I like the folding part: many times I have seen mirrors twisted into odd angles by people walking by and bumping into them

-that AMG steering wheel is the best one yet, even better than the one in my CLS55, I was told heating was not an option on the AMG wheel

-stiffness, there are stiffer sprung trucks but I think the ML63 is just right

-wait till the honeymoon is over and they won't even talk to each other.
(just kidding )

-my brakes squeaks too, mostly when it's lightly touched

-i never knew the changer is mp3 conpatible...

-I believe the digital speedo only stay visible when you select it's own page, it's gone if you flip and I don't think there is an option to make it stay 24/7

There is.

You can keep the digital speedo in the bottom half of the COMMAND screen but you have to loose the outside temp. It is in the instrument cluster setting. Then if you keep the COMMAND in the radio you have to hit down three and then down two to ck the temp. Then back to up three for the radio. Its like a little dance move we do every time I want to ck the outside temp. They should have have displayed both they have plenty of room.

Do you know you can also set the preference to scan your presets on the radio OR seek stations on the steering wheel. Big improvement over my CLS you could only seek and my arms were too short to reach the presents without reaching forward.
