Tires for the '02 ML55?
Hello Everyone,
I'm about to replace the tires for my ML. What do you reccommend? The stock tires, in my opinion, are not practical esp in SNOW! (one word... SUCKS!) I have the listed in mind...
1. NItto NT-404 (285/50/18 or 305/55/18???? would that even fit?)
2. Yokohama AVS S/T (285/55/18)
3. Pirelli Scorpion Zero (285/50/18)
Also, what size do you reccommend or what size would be an increase in handling/performance?
thanks in advance...

I have a set of Nitto NT 404's( 285-50-18).
They have a M+S rating also. They work great on dry and wet roads. A little too wide and not enough siping for snow and ice.
For the snow and Ice, I have another set of rims with Pirelli Sorpion S/T's (255-55-18). They are excellent in the snow and ice.

dgerb,
thanks for the reply. I had my eyes on the scorpion as well. Are they loud though? I heard many people complain about the loud tire noise, esp when they are worn half way through. Of course, they are not on the ML, so I can't really compare. thanks, again.

I just ordered a set of Yoko's yesterday thru Tirerack. The 295/45-20 Yoko AVS S/T is on Special for $205 each, not sure about the 18's.
The guy at Tirerack said that the Pirelli's is better(quieter, more dry/wet traction) than the Yokohama's.

Cars and boats!
I got Pirelli Scorpions 295/45/20 and they are great. I still have some good tread on them and ive had them for a little over a year. Also, i do a lot of driving. The tires arent noisy or rough at all. It provides great traction in wet or dry (i even autocrossed my ML55 onces on these tires). All and all, I love them. Cant say much for snow traction though, since I live in MIAMI.

Thanks!
Thanks, Benso!
That's what I've been waiting to hear. If you do not have any issues with the noise, I'll take your words for it and order mine today! btw, nice wheels!
oh, notice the biga$$ nail in the front driver side tire?

mor-power, nice ML55. What front grill guard is on your car? Someone told me that the ML55 and/or ML Sport Package would not accept the Mercedes Grille Guards. Thanks.

Manik Front Grille
Kev,
thanks!
That's the Manik front grille bar and it is specifically for the ML55. I purchased it when it first came out around a year ago.
