Hello Forum - just drove home my ML63 AMG
Hello to everyone on this forum. After months of waiting a for vehicle which is still not built, I started looking around and realized that there was a fantastic opportunity for me to get into a gently used (I hope) 2007 ML63 AMG. That was two days ago.
A couple of e-mails and one test drive later it is in my driveway. Holy crap, what a fantastic ride. This is my first Mercedes but based on a test drive and the drive home, I can't see it being my last.
I look forward to learning more about it in the days and weeks ahead, and also to learn from all of you as well.
First question - it only came with one key. Do most of you have two? and if so, if the cost of the 2nd key around 1200, as quoted to my by the dealer? Or are there better sources (ebay, etc.). I would imagine that ultimately the dealer has to program the key so may just make sense to go through them.
Cheers, and Merry Christmas!
Derrick

Did I violate some forum protocol by saying hello in this section? Hope not.
Hard to believe there have been 620 views and no one has said hi back, so that leads me to believe I must have done something wrong.
Oh well, Merry Christmas all.

Congrats,
As for the key, your dealer is ripping you a new one. They are $500 here in Australia and that is expensive.
Ring RMB Atlanta wholesale parts division and you get a good price for it

Congrats and welcome to the forum. You've got yaself a beautiful machine.
Dnt ever purchase MB keys online because you wnt be able do anything with them.
1200 is a rip off. Call up a few other stealerships and get quotes. I think a reasonable price for a new key is anything between 300 & 400$. To whoever got one for 220$ thats a steal!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes!
I managed to find a local dealer who would sell me a 2nd key for just over $300 Cdn, so that should be in next week.
I am also waiting for the bluetooth puck from my dealer - the vehicle came advertised as bluetooth capable but once I did some research the puck was missing! To the dealer's credit, they have ordered one for me.
The only other thing (for now.....tuning next???? cuz 0-60 in 4.7 is just not quick enough lol) is the cost of a car starter. Pretty much every dealer or installer I talk to is quoting me $2000. So going to have to decide if it is worth if for the few times the vehicle will be exposed to the great white north for an extended period.
Had my first laugh last night on the way home from a seminar. A young fellow in a new Yukon decided he wished to keep up with me from a stoplight (I had taken off moderately quickly, but only about a 1/4 throttle). When I saw him revving to keep up, I planted my foot, put about 80 yards on him, then slowed down. He shut down immediately and did not bother trying to catch up. Nothing like initiating the uninitiated.
Actually that was the 2nd laugh, the first one was the day I was driving the ML home for the first time. An X5 had been weaving through traffic fairly aggressively behind me. We ended up side by side at the light. When it went green, I took off fairly passively, waiting for him to punch it. Wisely, he never did. LOL!
