2012 ML63 Owners
How many 2012 ML63 Owners are monitoring this forum. How many of you feel the Truck's performance is "as advertised"? There are times that my 2012 just feels lazy especially for being rated 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. I haven't v-boxed or Gteched my 2012 ML63 to see what it measures but it seems a good amount slower than my W211 E55. I'm wondering if there are any other 2012 ML63 Owners that feel that the performance is soft. Have any of you V-box or Gtech measured the stock performance on your 2012 ML63?
Thanks

2010 ZR1 2011 JGC Overland 2013 ML63 on order
I have a MY13 PP on the way.. Oct delivery.. Grrrrr!!!
I'm going to do full dyno, V-Box testing and 1/4 mi before tuning and then after to compare results. So stay tuned..
But as to your comments on the slowness.. I test drove an ML63 last week and wasn't shy on the drive. Test driving in Sport mode, I found 1'st gear to seem as though there is a fair amount of torque limiting being done. I agree completely, it just didn't seem like it was delivering the right amount of thrust. After the 2'nd gear shift it seemed to be much better, but I felt as though 1'st gear kinda sucked!! And yes, I've driven turbo cars before.. 997TT I don't think it's turbo lag.

I still have less than 1000 miles so I haven't pushed it yet. Will report back when I have a few more miles. It's great when entering a highway even at partial throttle.

Mine feels like it'd run a 4.6-ish 0-60. When you turn the traction control to Sport mode & floor it, it takes a second for the turbos to spool, but it definitely goes after that.

Tony,
I've noticed the torque limiting as well. I have about 3300 miles on mine. It does feel better with sport + and traction controll off. Still doesn't feel like 0-60 in 4.5ish. Car feels way faster leaving in 2nd and then roll into it than leaving in 1st.

I've been running different transmission / traction combinations, and Sport (or S+) is the way to go - BUT turning off the traction control really produces the most noticeable "bump" in ability to accelerate.

We just took delivery of one yesterday so we will definitely have some before and after testing done of different products that we put on the vehicle.
Have any of you guys done anything to your truck yet or do you plan to?

C-mode (aka comfort mode) is set to have 2nd gear start as standard. It also shifts sooner and holds higher gears instead of downshifting into lower gears. This will make it feel slightly sluggish at times

SL65 - ML63
Absolutely correct! I had a previous model ML63 and thought my new 2012 model was sluggish also until I started running it in S (sport) mode. I have been more than pleased every since then

The truck is as fast as the mags say. I am a touch faster them SRT8 product so I would say 4.6-4.8 0-60 is on the mark. Yes of course you have to be in Sport and traction off
The one issue i find is my 08 was more neutral in handling. The harder you pushed it the better it was. The 12' has more oversteer and more of a non defined edge to the oversteer. You can feel it wanting to come around but then it snaps out very fast. I have been lowering rear tire pressure a little to soften the rear and it seems to help a little.

- How is the steering of the W166 AMG compare to the W164 AMG? (what I heard is that the W166 feels light but extremely precise)
- When you talked about snapping does this mean the W164 AMG is easier to control at the handling limit?
- Could the more oversteer due to the fact that the W166 is entering+ exiting the corners faster?
Thanks so much Sir!

I don’t think the truck is faster on turn in but it does seem to turn in easier. I think the lower profile tire attributes to this. Thus giving it the lighter feeling that people describe. The 08' was much more neutral at the limit. Also remember dry limit characteristics are magnified in the rain and or snow immensely
I think the truck just has more over steer built into the handling characteristics. Not a bad thing but with a higher center of gravity it comes around quick and is not always the easiest to catch. It has come out on me several times and with 20 years of semi prof race experience it has caught me off guard more than once. I don’t really drive using the speedometer but seat of my pants tells me speed wise through the turns my old 08’ and my 12’ are very close. The difference seems to be the new truck is tougher to drive at the limit.
In reality most people will never drive the truck intentionally as hard as I do but some might do it unintentionally (enter an unknown turn to fast) and I want them to know what the truck will do at limit.
The other issue it transmition lag when coming to a stop then going. All Mercedes have a lag but it seems worse with my 12' It seems like it doesnt know what gear to be in so it as a long hesitation.
Overall with its slight faults I still think it’s the best track I have ever owned. That’s my feedback on the truck.

2013 ML63 AMG with PP
hmmmm.......I used to have a 2009 GTR and that had the same issues of Transmission Lag.....I think it's these "Flappy Paddle Gearboxes" that are the cause. Hopefully I won't notice it too much in my new ML63 when it comes!!! *crosses fingers*
