W163 Coolant System question
The wife has a 99' ML-430 that I just finished replacing the cracked coolant tank on. I've filled the tank to the line but won't I have to purge the air out of the system? My BMW has 2 Bleed Valves on the block for burping it, what procedure do I follow on the ML-430? Are there bleed valves and if so, where are they located?
Thanks

It would seem that if you were watching the expansion tank to keep the coolant level up changing it would not necessarily require a full bleed of the system just run the car with the cap open and top it. When I change coolant I remove the thermostat housing hose and prop open the thermostat while I fill the radiator. Once coolant reaches the top of the housing I put the hose back on, let the car run to operating temperature with the cap open and top off the radiator. I then close the cap and shut it down, let it cool and check the level. If it needs any further topping off I do it and close it up. It's time consuming but gets it done.
