ML55 Supercharged

Looking to see if anyone has retro fitted a E55 supercharger on their ML55? Often thought I would like to do this. Anyone able to shine a light on the up and comming possible project? Have a complete setup for the swap? Let me know and thanks in advance for any advice.

I might be picking up a 2002 ML55 soon, would be interesting to hear more on this setup.

sub'd just to see if you guys make it happen. IMHO that's the way it should have come from the factory! Might have more luck asking the E55 or C55 guys to see if they did the retrofit on their 5.5L N/A engines yet. Good luck.

Not worth it. Just sell it and get a much newer ML63 for not that much more. They are giving ML63s away these days and you will have a much better built car. All you need is a tune on the 63 to make it a monster

I do agree with you about getting a 63 and had thought about it but with only 40,000 miles on our 55 I thought it would make a great platform for a supercharger project. I'm currently looking into a HPS charger as it seems like an easier install. Thanks Rippin I was able to locate a thread dealing with a E55 supercharger install. That made me think about the HPS charger.

It's rarely about worth and more about what the individual wants. There is always a faster X for Y - for me, I liked the ML55 better than the ML63. Also, it drives much more like a truck and less like an SUV. I had considered either a turbo or supercharger - I'm just not sure my ML could take it - having 180k on the engine already.

I swapped in a whole engine and modded the S/c to be mechanically operated. This thing was dirty fast on the low end. Never got the tuning squared away due to the ecu being 2.0. Pulled it out a month later. If I had a newer ml55 it would of been just a vin flash/ tune

I had one of the last ML55 made - 2004 - and it had the same 2.0 ECU which was a pain to tune. Ended up with a secondary fuel pump amongst other things. It was quick though but I went with Kleemann blower:

Nice truck. I swapped out the anemic stock fuel pump for an Aeromotive stealth pump with a Keene bell boost a pump for the drop off in fuel under load. My understanding was that Mercedes began installing an early version 2.8 in the 01 and up MLs. I noticed it in the 2005 ml500. Unfortunately these trucks don't come in often enough for me to verify ECU versions.

Oh supercharged ML55 is very cool! When you did the swap how did you deal with the transmission/transfer case? Is it still 4WD and any issues running so much power on that hardware?

Best option is to start with a 220 or 215 engine because the sump is in the front. Oil pan swap upper and lower. Remove the pickup and install the stock one off your ML. All should mate up after that. Does not impair the 4wd system. Didn't leave it in long enough to find out any long term problem. Really don't think there would be anyhow.
Tried to convince my friend with an 06 Ml500 (164) to swap it into his but he's very reluctant. Did a full 63 conversion minus the engine.

Im surprised this hasn't been done as of yet. I just dropped a m113k into my 99 w163. The engine came out of an 05 CLS AMG. Piecing it together, I picked up harness, ME 2.8.1, oil cooler lines from 04 S500 AMG, filter housing (CLS unit was missing) from an E55. Installing my own coolers for oil and water to air exchanger. There is still more work to be done, about a few days away from initial start. For me its not about the going out and purchasing the faster one because its easier. Its about the challenge of getting it done. Plus I really like the way the w163 handles the snow. Its more of a truck then the 164. As close to a G as I'm going to get at this point.

What ever happened to your project? I am still looking for one that has had the conversion completed with long term results.

Thanks,
Mick

I was just looking for a tuner for a ML500 - which seem scarce?? Supercharger is more than I want on my 2006 ML500.

Renntech doesn't advertise the older cars, but pretty sure if you contact them, they can handle. They tuned the tranny computer on my W163 ML500 when I put in custom diffs and it was a 1 hour turnaround.

Jerry
