Better place for ML55 community?
I love MBWorld but this section seems lacking of all lifeforms most often, is there any other source you guys use specifically for the ML55 community?
I know the w163 section is another option and still relatively active as well....
I've gained infinite knowledge from this site so mean no harm, just sad this section has kind of went flat, although I know there aren't many ML55's still going in comparison to many other models.
Thx,
kaixdiego

You hit the nail on the head !! Not sure how many of the ML55's/ML63's were produced in their production runs ( it would be nice to know) but probably not any more than a few 1000's.
Compared to the W163 forum, ours is a very rare animal. I also have 1999 ML430, which I bought new in Nov/1998. I now have over 415,000 miles on her and she is all original and continues to run GREAT.
My experience with her is what led me to search out a ML55, which I just found/purchased this year !!

That's impressive mileage! That's the type of life and beyond I hope to get out of my c55 and ml55. What kind of service has the ml430 been through in that mileage? anything out of the ordinary/any recommendations on upkeep?

By far, the most important service is regular oil changes. Since day 1, I have always done my own oil changes with a new fleece filter and only MOBIL 1 0W40 .
I have changed every 10,000 miles using the dipstick tube as the withdrawal location. Pull the filter first, siphon the oil out of dipstick tube and use oil filter mount to add new oil.....Plenty of info on the BenzWorld site regarding procedure.
Regular transmission fluid changes w/filter are also important. Pay attention to any little items that don't seem right .
Basic requirement is to be a certified car nut and always have a little project in the works to keep her in excellent condition
I frequent BenzWorld a LOT more than this one and you should post some pictures of your ML and introduce yourself if you haven't already....great group of folks are are eager to help other owners !!

Definitely agree with the oil being a key factor, I also do all my own oil changes. I recently switched to Castrol Edge and seems to withstand the high temps a lot better, mobil 1 is a great oil but with hard driving the c55 would chew it up so I switched both the ml55 and c55 over to Castrol.
I have a YouTube channel I posted on here a few times, that's where I keep the majority of my content but do post on here when something important comes up, here is the channel if you want to check it out : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCH..._as=subscriber
I often use BenzWorld too for info but haven't yet created an account, I'll have to head over and do so! Cheers!

Benzworld is definitely the better place for activity between ML55 owners. But I think the Benzworld w163 forum is a lot better because the Ml55 is just like ml500. The w163 community in Benzworld just seems a lot more willing to help and answer. Same with the w203 and w211 forums there.
you should also try joining the ML500/ML55 Facebook group. People there are willing to help out too.
also so I subbed to your YouTube. Good stuff

Thx man! Yea I actually checked out the forums over there after signing up finally and liked what I saw. There does seem to be a more helpful atmosphere in general. I'll check out the FB group too although I rarely use it.

My retirement ML55 AMG that I purchased from my next door neighbor who was a local Virginia MB service manager. Brought it in 2016 with 105,000 miles on clock for $6,500 and mounted four new tires and got wheel alignment. What's not to like....AMG engine, distinctive hood, buffalo hide seats, dual exhausts, red Brembo brakes, 5,000 pound towing capacity, 18 inch tires, at one time the fastest SUV in the world, not many produced. First week after I bought it, I drove it around with the biggest grin on my face listening and feeling that V-8 growl. I was a teenager in the 1960's and always wanted a V-8.

Excuse my ignorance, but why remove the oil this way?

Almost a week since I bought the ML55, still going through it with a fine tooth comb. So far I think I need a new water pump, power steering is leaking bad, and somehow I'm leaking washer fluid. Need to do the brakes, one of them at least. And I get a tone coming through the speakers, thinking the aftermarket radio wasnt installed correctly. I want to upgrade that anyway.
