ML63 Low Oil Light

Does the W166 ML63 have a low oil alert that is displayed on the dash? Asking because I had oil changed about 6 months ago but have not put on many miles. I went to check the oil and it seems to be at “MIN” level. Unless I am totally reading the dipstick wrong.

Edit: I’ve checked the manual and I know it says it does, but I just want to make sure there isn’t anything that could be wrong with my notification system.

Yes, it has a low oil alert. Don't fret. My 63 does not need oil between 10k mile oil changes.

This is what the dipstick looked like.

Thanks! It’s just very odd because checking today, I waited for the engine to reach operating temp and then pulled the dipstick out. Wiped off and reinserted and i can barely see the oil line. I wiped off with microfiber and there really was no residue above the MIN marking making me think I am dangerously low. It is 20 degrees here in Michigan

There is a possibility your sensor is sludged. If that is the case, you should add oil.

Not sure if it’s because I’m getting old or the style of this dipstick but it looks like the oil is at a good level. I really don’t want to add a quart unless I get a message or I can tell for sure. I might need to just get a new dipstick.

I am hoping that’s not the case. Checking the oil again I can see there is a film of oil up to the middle of the “min” and “Max” locations. It’s just difficult for me to see and not as obvious as the traditional types of dipsticks.

You had the engine running and then pulled out the oil stick to check its level? This MUST be a new way of checking oil level now. But yes, the vehicle has a low oil sensor that will alert you to put in a quart or so.

Yes and with the dipstick I then opened the oil cap while the engine was running and tried to shove the dipstick as far down as I could. Just kidding.

I actually had the engine get to operating temp, turned it off, waited 5 minutes and then tested. It’s per the manual.

Yeah, that's not going to setoff the low oil warning light. It won't go off until the oil level is closer to the bottom of the dipstick.
