Boy, was that a mistake!
My name is Sam and I live in Klamath Falls, Oregon. I'm new to Mercedes but always wanted one so when I found a 2002 ML320 in Longview, WA, owned by a widow-lady too old to safely drive anymore, I couldn't get there fast enough. It is black, beautiful and like new with 135,000 miles. She hadn't driven much in the past five years so the soft tapping sound I heard, when I test-drove it, didn't concern me much. After all, she had just replaced four catalytic converters, at a ridiculous cost, so I concluded that it was a lifter that was not up to pressure, but as I proudly zoomed around, the tapping became louder.
After about a month, I sought the advice of an independent foreign car mechanic. After listening to the engine and my story, he suggested adding Rislone until my appointment date two weeks later. He spent a couple days ruling out things like the timing chain, cam followers and everything else but piston slap. He finally asked if I would let him pull the thing out and flip it over for a peek. I agreed.
The cylinder walls were scored along the left bank where the tapping was heard. Along the right bank were the beginnings of scarring too.
Fast-forward to today. I have a beautiful ML320 in my driveway and an engine that, by all accounts, has been very well cared for sitting at my mechanic's shop waiting to hear its fate.
Originally, I found MBWorld while I was trying to determine what the tapping could be but now I've joined the forum to ask your advice.
In your opinion, what should I do?

These dealers saying they sell at MSRP or one gave me 2% off the mls.

Any tips? Even used ones with 10k miles they almost price as new, it's crazy.

I'm Kain. I have owned a 03 cl55 AMG for about almost a year. It's at 115,xxx and I've replaced a coolant leak and a strut in the back that needed to be replaced. Around what milage does the hydraulic suspension start giving out? I've noticed my CL is a bit higher then usual. And if you know about any more issues with the car would really help! Thanks.

have owned a 2003 cl55 AMG for about a year and im in love. Haven't really had any mechanical issues besides a coolant leak and a strut that needed to be replaced. I'm looking to get some bigger tires. What my wheel size is now 245/45/18 is it possible to go 255/50/18 or maybe even 265?

Used a perfectly good '98 SL600 for a father/son project - entered the car in to the Houston 24 hours of LeMons Race.

49,317 miles. Roll cage. Head gasket and radiator issues at start of 2nd race. Have moved on to a car that's easier to fix for both of us! Lots of parts available, including original side windows, light assembly units, motors for soft/hard top, etc etc.

Looking for a home or good use of the parts so.

Hi im Andrew from Minnesota, just bought a 2013 c300 sport a couple weeks ago.

I do have a question though, when I was test driving other c300 sports some of the exhausts sounded way better then mine (like a low growl) and they were all stock from the dealer. Does anyone know if I could order the same type of exhaust? I was talking to the parts guy at the MB dealership where I bought my car from and he was not sure if a different exhaust would fit (not sure why).

The reason I wanted one from MB and have them install it is to keep my warrenty on the car which he said he would check into and get back to me. Has anyone done this and know what kind I should ask him to look into? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I have not had much luck searching online.

Hi all. Bought a 2007 GL500 X164 6 months ago. Then had 126000Km on it - now 148000Km. My first MB. Amazing vehicle. Have replaced all brake rotors with slotted units, done two engine oil changes (with filters) plus air and cabin filters. Everything works! Cheers, Ed.

2007 R350 in silver
2012 C300 in black.

I am having issue with my R350 though. The battery picture is ON in the message screen. It will turn OFF after driving an hour or more but it will comeback the next day. Do you know if it is related to the auxiliary or main battery?
