2002 Mercedes CLK 430 & 2016 BMW 328 IX
Cool New member, first Mercedes

Hello everyone,

I'm looking forward to diving in to the forum and enjoying the new to me ride!

I did tons of research here and throughout the internet before buying.

A silver 2002 CLK 430 Cabriolet is now in my garage making friends with my 2016 BMW 328 IX.

I'll post some pictures, but I'm falling for this Benz. The paint glimmers, she was garage kept and has just under 80K miles on the odometer.

I have the NAV package and have to learn all the new buttons and switches.

I'm wondering if I can connect my phone to the OEM system.

I also have to check about a bulb message. The message displays when turning the lights on. I checked all exterior lights, outside mirror bulbs, both license plate bulbs and I'm at a loss. Maybe the previous owner switched to HID bulbs? If that's the case does anyone know how to get the message indicator to stop displaying a fault?

Back to digging in to archives for me!

Mike

What color are the bulbs? If they're not that dingy yellowish white halogen bulbs put out, previous owner might have swapped in LEDs. Problem is, they probably didn't use the proper canbus LEDs you need to not trip error code. HID conversion is also possible and you can check that by looking to see if the bulb is connecting to an external ballast.

Thank you for the response!

I will have to check it out later tonight and crawl under see if I can find a ballast.

Looks like a no go on connecting my phone to this old system. I'm going to use an old bluetooth speaker / mic from my previous garaged toy.

Thanks!

Mike

I found this ballast lurking underneath. (I also found LED city lights installed)

Do I need to replace all the bulbs or is there a resistor or something i can add to get the malfunction warning to stop.

It's quite annoying, especially when the car is so clean otherwise.

Thanks!

Mike

Yeah, aftermarket HID kit. Might be able to just replace the ballast if it's your front headlights. Other LEDs, you'll need canbus LEDs. We can help you out with replacing the bulbs and ballast if interested. Shoot us a PM or email us directly at aznoptics@gmail.com.
