@divptl Welcome! Please post a photo of the GLS.

Another user posted nearly the same question as you, in the GLS X166 section. Was that you?

A 2018 has factory (Mercedes) warranty for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Your car is less than 4 years old. How many miles does it have?

What do you mean "inspected"? Do you mean New Jersey state emissions and safety inspection? This is not covered under warranty by any manufacturer in any state.

I prefer to use a Mercedes dealer for service, because they have the proper tools, diagnostic system and training. I recommend you do the same. Another suggestion is to find a qualified and trusted independent repair shop that specializes in Mercedes or German vehicles. I would not use a BMW dealer, unless they also sell Mercedes, which is unlikely. The reason not to use a BMW dealer is that they do not have the training, tools or diagnostic system required for your vehicle.

Please continue to ask questions either on this thread, or start a new thread in the X166 section. Was that you in the existing X166 thread?

Hey Thank you for the reply,

By inspection I meaning should I take it to MB dealer and ask if they can take a look and see if any issue. If there is will they cover it under warranty. It has 41k miles on it and I want to use warrnty. This is my first MB and I am very handy and looking to maintain it myself after warrnty is over .

With all due respect, the best time for an inspection to check for issues would’ve been BEFORE purchasing the car. Personally, I would never buy a Benz w/o a CPO inspection. These are more than simple routine inspections. Did you pull the service history/CarFax report before buying?

Unless you’re a certified MB mechanic, maintaining a 2018 model MB yourself will be a major challenge. Assuming you aren’t, and this isn’t what you do for a living, why buy a high-end luxury vehicle and then skimp on the service and pampering these vehicles need? This always perplexes me. To be honest, it’s one of the reasons I choose CPOs coming off a short-term lease; otherwise I have no idea who attempted to work on the car before I saw it. The only hands I want on/in my Benz, before or after I take ownership, are the hands of an expert. But that’s just MY preference. Others likely feel differently.

I agree with both last two comments. However this was a good deal and I did check services and all was done at MB dealer . Car is single owner and trade in at BMW.. I drove the car and it was ok now just want to double insure
insure. .. I have fingers cross.. also any advise how much it would cost to extend the warranty ? Any place you can suggest.

Yes, you can take the vehicle to any MB dealership. If you have a specific problem, tell them about it and it might be covered under warranty, if it is a warrantable item.

If you bring them the vehicle and say “check it over for me” there will likely be a charge for this in the neighborhood of $200 per hour, approx.

Extended Warranty

I recently bought a CPO CLS with 38K miles. Then purchased, after some lengthy research, an extended warranty from CarShield. Because my vehicle has < 50K miles, it’s considered “new” and eligible for their Diamond protection package. I was able to acquire a policy for $109/month. Of course I still have 2 yrs remaining in the CPO warranty; however, my thought process was it would prudent to buy the CarShield warranty now, when the car is eligible for their best package. The coverage is pretty extensive—-essentially covering everything a new car warranty does. If you do reach out to them, let them know I recommended it.
