2003 CL55 AMG
Newbie CL55 AMG owner

Great to be on this forum! I just took delivery of a 2003 CL55 AMG, 148k+ miles, pretty good condition. Bought it at a pretty good price as the owner had twins on the way and the car went into limp mode 6 months ago and has sat in his driveway and on the side of the road every since. Owner seems like a great car guy so I may have made a new friend. Helps that we are both Veterans who served overseas. His HOA board was giving dirty looks, threatening to revoke his community gym pass and charged that he was bringing down the community's property values (with a beautiful Mercedes coupe parked by his house). I'm so glad I don't have an HOA where I live. I can understand unkept yards and houses but some of them take it way too far.

So far replaced dead battery and did some resets. Only code I could pull was a P0122 for TPS. Got a new pedal yesterday. Car starts and moves, albeit absolutely anemic throttle response (hopefully the new pedal fixes it). Has a SRS malfunction on. Trying to figure out if this has an auxiliary battery so I can replace that, if needed. If so - would appreciate anyone telling me the location.

A few initial observations... Driver's door does not do soft close very well... It sounds like something inside is trying very hard to accomplish it and then after 30 seconds I just shut it. I understand there is an air pump system so maybe failed pump. Car and interior looks decent for the age and number of owners (I am number 7) so I don't think it was neglected.

I have yet to get under the hood. Wheels are in pretty bad shape with rusted lug nuts. They are factory 18 inch wheels with the coating flaking off. In my area - someone is offering brand new 19 inch wheels from a GL450 (17-19 model year) and from what I can tell, the offset on the rear would be way too much for my comfort... and the width is less. Any suggestions for wheels I could get that would be a good match... or perhaps I will just get these wheels refurbished.

I'm really just starting to get into it.... I will finally clean out my garage and get this pulled in for the winter... My goals is to have it completely sorted out in the spring and use it anytime I have to drive to DC for work (I live in Fredericksburg, VA).

That's a start. I hope everyone has a full tank, clear roads and great rest of your week.

Cheers,
Rex

Here you go... A few small blemishes but overall in good condition.... I replaced the pedal and now the engine revs up nice... I'm not going to drive it until I clean out the engine. Mice got in there and there is crap and other debris all over the supercharger.. I'm going to pull than and get as much of that stuff out, and also all of the dirt and leaves that got into the engine bay. I think the SC is in good condition. I will get a master service list of all the repairs at the local MB dealership to see what has been done lately.

Interior is black, with some scuffs here and there.

I got the dreaded SRS light with a 91A3 code. Scanner says it's a squib under the passenger’s seat. I'm hoping it's just frayed or loose wiring... Any pointers on that would be appreciated!

I haven’t really driven it. I want to get everything squared away before I take it on the road. The ABC seems to be on good shape… came up ever since new battery went in. And hasn’t dropped at all…

I cleared all the codes and will probably take it for a short test drive to see what comes back and start from there…. After I clean out the mouse nest in the engine.

Wow, small world!

My family lives off 610 and my nephews both worked at the 610 Car Wash during and right after high school!

I’m down at the Beach.

My former brother in law had an S55 for a long time. Awesome car - liked to eat the house battery though. For as big as it was, it sure hauled the mail! Enjoy your CL!
