Locked, but Not Locked?

New to the Mercedes family. I had never even sat in one before, then saw one on Carvana and bought it.

Something I've never experienced before, but really need a solution;

I can lock the doors with my fob until I'm blue in the face. The doors lock. However, despite being locked, anybody can grab the handle, lift, and the door opens! Yes, the alarm goes off, but the doors open as though they were never locked in the first place! I can't have this. Why in the world would the people designing the lock system on this vehicle think this should be a feature??? How can I lock the doors and the doors do exactly that; lock?

Thanks in advance!

Doesn't sound like a feature at all. Might be a broken locking actuator but the car thinks it is locked and armed the vehicle when the actual latch did not engage.

I am hoping it is an electrical glitch, perhaps try unplugging the battery for like 30 seconds and plug it back? Does it have some sort of warranty at least, like 90 days or so that they can look into the problem?

Carvana had a window but it's closed now. I never noticed it did that until recently. There's no reason for me to try and open the doors when I know they're locked.

One night last week, my boyfriend was doing his usual dance where he wants me to stick around and listen to him throw a temper tantrum but m allergic to whining, so I got in my car to leave and he went to open up my door, that I know for a fact I locked, and it opened right up.

I checked that again and sure enough, the doors will very much open.

not sure what model do you have since you didn't state it or I missed it, get a Mercedes capable scanner to scan the vehicle such as Launch CReader benz.

Generic scanners might not find the codes, alternatively could get vehicle scanned at autozone.

Probably a software issue. If no codes present - take to dealer.

OP is not under warranty I think? Might as well take it to an independent shop that specializes European cars or specifically MB.

OP since we don't know what the model is, any chance you have a defective latch? https://mbworld.org/forums/glc-class...ml#post9135558

I think more information is required.

1. just to be sure, when somebody is grabbing the handle you and the key are not near the car. Correct?

2. Do you actually hear the car locking and can you visually confirm that it is locked (not knowing the model)?

3. did you actually receive 2 keys with the car? If not, the 2nd key could be in the car. It shouldn’t lock then but I have seen unusual behavior with 2 keys. Again depends on model/age.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!
