Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Interior Details And Design Sketches Revealed
In a brilliant marketing move – one that surely only the geniuses at their marketing department could have surmised – Mercedes today has granted a bit of backstage access into the inner workings of their design department, revealing interior photos and design sketches of their forthcoming SLS AMG Gullwing model. According to the company, "aviation engineering" was the inspiration for the SLS interior, as evidenced by "the centre console in the style of a jet's operating console and the four striking air vents reminiscent of aircraft engines."
According to Gordon Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz: "The interior of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is not only very special because of the exclusive swing-wing doors. The visible influence of aviation engineering, the high-grade materials and the practicality typical of a sports car will make the hearts of sports car enthusiasts beat faster. At the same time the new interior styling indicates the design philosophy for coming generations of Mercedes sports cars."
But why read about it when you can see it. Keep scrolling for a number of photos showcasing the new Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing (click any to enlarge) along with the official press release.
Enjoy ladies and gentlemen.
63 motor simply has inadequate real-world tq; MCT (and presumably DCT) boxes have to-date proven to have dubious reliability and daily-use characteristics (jerkiness when cold (by CA stds) or on steep hills or in low-speed driving); wouldn't want to be in a gullwing in any rollover; doubt it has ground clearance (or a front lift feature like 997GT3 v2.0 will have) for daily urban commuting practicalities
Need a high-tq V12 otherwise meaningless exercise
Will stay w/ '10 CL65 unless test-drives of SLS convince me otherwise...

That is the only problem I have with this car. I like the proposed outside design, interior is fine, power could be better, but I want to row the gears. Its not like they couldn't source a tremec tr-6060 in 20 seconds that would easily handle the power.

You know I'm big fan of your posts here, but you've got to be kidding here. An overweight luxury coupe with an ancient V12 & 5-speed automatic won't compare to this SLS in any way outside or ride comfort or torque. The SLS is going to be a true sports car from Mercedes-Benz for a change.

I just hope M-B DOESN'T F*** IT UP!!!! They've been going in that "f'ing stuff up" direction in my personal opinion a bit scarily much lately.
On a side note, am I the only person who does not like the SLR? I was looking at one at the Dealership the other day, and really don't see the attraction.... And that price-tag
pushing like $500K?
And it has a soft top?I dunno, it just never really tickled my fancy. I'd probably rather have an SL BS.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

I don't care for it either. I have 2 minutes attention span for it.
But SLS on the other hand...WOW

The central design theme of "aviation engineering" is reflected in the wing-shaped dashboard, the centre console in the style of a jet's operating console and the four striking air vents reminiscent of aircraft engines.
Some design sketches:
I agree with many of you on this subject. It is just an overpriced SL65. Way! overpriced.
On top of that, they had problems with them overheating a few years back.
I also don't like the Maybach exterior. Very gaudy and an overemphasis on the side paneling.
Interior is very nice though. If the W220 interior quality had met the interior of a Maybach halfway, I would have had more respect for it.

SLR is overpriced for sure compared to cars like the Ferrari 599 GTB, but it has nothing to do with the SL65. Not the chassis, engine, anything. The SLR's construction alone puts the regular SL65 on the trailer. If the SLR had been around 250-300K it would have sold much better, but yeah 500K is too much for a car that can't top a 300K Ferrari in driving pleasure.

Anyways, the interior for the SLS looks great, but I'm not a big fan of the exterior if it looks like the design sketches.
I mean Jay leno has 1 and he loves it. I think the SLR looks good. Price is not very attractive would get a 599 or an LP640 anyday but still. Its a good car.
It doesnt have much problems. Over heating thats about it. So far i heard. If you do have a ferrari or lambo or aston, something goes wrong alot more. My cousin's DB9 just bought it stuck in dealer for 3 week they couldnt figure out whats wrong. Ferrari 430 friend has 1 bought it washed the car water leaks inside LOL. Can't also figure out whats going on.
But anyways yeah slr price tag no good. But car itself I think is unique. Elegant Classy.

They have the same headlights?

Assuming we're discussing pre-facelift:

I'm pretty sure they have different engines too.

It's an invitation to sit in, buckle your seatbelt....
enjoy the ride.
