S63 AMG Cabrio
Cool New Maybach S650 Convertible: now it is official!

Seems to be mainly badging, special bumpers, lwheels, eather, etc

See article and other pics here: http://mercedesblog.com/luxurious-me...650-cabriolet/

For video, see here:

Euro 300K base price, but full-option, including luggage set and key-ring, so not much to be added.

I'll reserve final judgement until I have seen the other colors, but this car shown is garish and ugly to me. Honestly, I do believe that the folks who choose colors at MB have lost their minds and have absolutely no idea what good taste is anymore. If they think they are taking on Bentley with this monstrosity, they will be sorely disappointed.

S63 AMG Cabrio
Here another color:

For more, see here: Maybach S650 Convertible

Both color combos are not my taste, to say the least, but ok, apparantly there is a market for this.

In this outdoor video, the red color show a little better BTW:

Personally I am not sure how the Maybach brand will be used moving forward.

Apart from distinct Maybach models (S-Class), it appears that they go after customizers like Brabus who create upgraded versions of the standard MB models.

Since we are looking at primarily interior/exterior changes for about 40000+ Euro, I think they need a dramatically larger selection of colors/trims/wheels.
But these are budget prices nonetheless...

$323k according to Bloomberg. A tad steep compared to the sedan.

How so?

This is based on the S65 Cab. which clocks in at 255K Euro in Germany. This one is 45k more.
Forget Bloomberg's price, they just used a currency conversion.

Personally I don't care for the bits/wheels they added, but you get quite a bit more car than a W12 Bentley conv.

OK, but if it ends up at $300k+ here, I still think its a lot compared to a $191k Maybach S600 sedan.

Well, I'm sure there are enough buyers out there to snap up the 300 cars world wide, but I really find this car to be gaudy and unappealing. And with so many S65 engine/transmission horror stories out there, who would want that set up in an ultra luxury cab? At least with the Maybach sedan, there is the extended wheelbase, but this car is nothing more than a tarted up S65 cab and I think that MB is diluting the Maybach cachet by badging this car as such. Now, if it were a four door drop top, that would be something worthy of a Maybach badge.

2014 S550
S600 Maybach is very different from S600 Sedan. That's enough of a reason to pay the premium. It's a DIFFERENT car. Sure - the front and back are the same but the extension is quite clearly enough of a difference.

The S550 Cab and the S650 Maybach Cab are.... Identical. All the "bits" can be purchased or made and applied to a 550. If Engine is the issue - Go for S63. $300k for something that looks IDENTICAL to a $125k S550 Cab?

Marketing Blunder here - and I know we all have our own opinions and I respect everyone's. Mine just happens to be more correct. lol. I kid I kid.

I think everyone agrees that there isn't enough differentiation a few like it. I think it's a step down in design myself.
This car, however, plays to the S65 buyers not the S550 ones. As such, the small difference in money is worth the limited edition. I do believe that there are plenty of buyers for that kind of a car.

Streamlined, the V12 and its transmission are fine; not the latest tech but in many ways a much nicer driving car than the 63.

Well, that landaulet would surely be worthy of the Maybach badge, but I relate more to cars that I can drive, not to cars in which one is chauffeured. I was thinking of something more along the lines of the MB "Ocean Drive" concept of a few years back. If that car was ever produced, I do believe that I would do whatever was necessary to get one and then I'd never stop driving it. To me, it is simply the most beautiful, most elegant, most desirable car ever designed, but not put into production. What a shame.

It is stunning! But to be honest why not just buy a S550,S63 or S65 Cab fully loaded? What will be different between the S Cabriolet vs Maybach Cabriolet?

AND, you can't even have it YOUR way, you are limited to the three colors. For that money, they should give you any exterior color, with any interior color. I'm sorry, but if I ever happen to see someone driving one of these things, I'm just going to laugh and laugh.

And one more thing that has been bugging me ever since they introduced it: Swarovski Crystals in the headlights??? I'm sorry, but what's next, a Cartier or Bill Blass edition? For a legendary company like MB, steeped in engineering, performance and true luxury, putting these tasteless doodads on one of their cars is right up there with a fake convertible top and opera windows on a Cadillac sedan. Good grief, what are they smoking over there???

Yea Mercedes needs to get back to customers allowing them to have more control over what they order as where the company only gives you a set standard. This is why Mercedes while they are my favorite car will never ever be at the same level Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Back in 2004 a friend of mine here in Florida went round and round and begged Mercedes to make a special 2004 Maybach 57 "AMG Version" Then again in 2007 with his next one. A 57S AMG Version. The AMG version never came and he only was able to do away with the carbon fiber and used black maple wood instead. He changed the white leather parts to cream and added cream leather to the lower door panels. Then he also got the automatic rear door closing system added to his car. Point being years ago a customer use to come to Mercedes/AMG/Maybach and say I have X amount of money to spend and I want you to build it! And they did!!

Is it me or does the front grill look like a Cadillac

Here another video about the Maybach S650 from our 5.6 guys/girls:

It seems you can order any (custom) color besides the 3 "standard" colors.

Again, it is a AMG S65 technology wise, only Maybach detailing, like front grill, wheels, colors, carpet, interior trim and a 1 of 300 badge. Pity it has not the 4WD of the S63

If anything, it's the 65 series that needs the AWD the most with it' gigantic torque.
As it is, most of that power is on paper only and goes in smoke when not careful.

Well, that's finally coming with the facelift on the sedan. Coupe will follow the next year...
