S550 Front Massage Seats Malfunction

Pretty sure that my front massage seats air pump is gone. I press the Command wheel to start button to start the massage, and it'll flash the message "Press back against the pressure spot in the backrest" and nothing happens, and it'll reset itself to start. Both the driver and passenger seat exhibit the same behaviour. At first I thought I heard an air leak of sorts, but nothing after the first few times. Time to bring it into the dealer, and will report back on what the fix is.

I made a gif of the Command screen showing how it resets itself after I click it as well for anyone else who encounters this issue in the future.

Interesting!

I received this warning for the first time a couple of days ago as well. However, this only happened to me on the Active Workout massage as you have shown. For the other massage settings I did not receive the warning and they worked fine.

Try the other massage types to see if the same warning comes up.

I had already tried the other settings before taking the video of it. But who knows, I'll try it again in the morning. Maybe the Mercedes electrical ghosts will have left the car overnight.

From the one time I used the active workout, I remember the pressure points do not move, hence the message to press back.
Do the other massages work?

I usually use number 4. And it didn't work when I tried any of the other massages.

This is one feature that I can honestly say was WAY better on my 2013 W221, compared to my 2015. In the older car, the pressure was firm, smooth and linear, and really felt like a real massage. On the newer car, it feels like something is inflating and then, at a certain point, it feels like whatever is inflating sort of "pops" and fades away. I complained to the dealer about it and he let me sit in another 2015 and that car was the same. I don't know if this was improved upon in the 2016, but am hoping for a better system in the 2018 refresh.

the refresh is supposed to bring redesigned seats with massage also in the lower cushion

Got the seats fixed under warranty, and it was a fault with the pneumatic pump. Interesting to note that the pumps for the seats are located in the trunk. Attached work order for anybody else with this same issue for future reference. Part number for the pump is 222-900-15-10.

I know I certainly appreciate it when people post up DIY guides or post up TSBs that help me fix my car.

Bad news. Mother effing massage seats broke again today! I could hear a hiss coming from the trunk where the air pump for the massage seats are located. Back to the dealer again tomorrow.

Totally forgot about this post, but the dealer did fix the massage seats again. Seems to be software issue. Again, work order attached.

so are they actually supposed to vibrate during this massage or is it just the hot stones prodding your back?

Hot Stones... lol.... Heater wires turn on ( Parts of the heated Seat ) then the tiny air bags (massage) just inflate and deflate in the pre-selected sequence....

S550e Both Front Seat Massage Malfunction

Took my 2017 S550e to dealer because both front seats massage stopped responding to new settings. MB said I needed software update $220. A couple of hours later, got car back working fine. ...My question to the forum is...How can I update my software independent of dealership and the fees?
