disappointing...S560e to get a V6, not the new I6

I think I6 got issues with dimensional measures since it has the same length of V12 engine. but the V6 has a length of an I3 engine.
I prefer the S500 I6 engine since it gives a smoother ride and I hope its a significant difference too because thats what I read in many articles!

[EDIT:] I mean the ICE S500. It isn't clear to me that the W222 hybrid will get the I6. Conceivably they could wait until W223.

People on this forum have said MY2019 for the US. Seems available, or at least orderable, in Europe right now...link

It's a low volume car; as such little money goes to the R&D until the S-Class gets electrified.
The S-Class hybrid is a bridge model that received the necessary updates but nothing more until there will be a significant revamp with the W223

The I6 also has no outside belt driven accessories, so it's actually quite small. It would free up space and weight, but it's clearly not ready for production yet.

Don't know why this would be disappointing. The inline engines barely made it into the S-Class with none of them coming to the US until later.

But as it stands now, I'd never get a S560e with the old V6. Either a S500 or S560 (no e), or a next-gen A8 hybrid, or wait for the W223 or something else entirely, for me.

Maybe there is no issues with engine compartment length and I just made this up too

It's disappointing to me because if I spend this much on a car, I prefer to have the best available technology. Adding a significant amount of HP and torque due to hybridization, but more than losing any advantage (and ending up with something SLOWER) by going with a previous-generation engine just doesn't cut it for me. Expecting the I6 in the S560e, I had just about convinced myself that I'd be willing to give up AWD in order to get hybrid.

Ah, but the I6 S500 is here now and IS 48V mild hybrid. I would think it shouldn't be all that much effort to make it a full hybrid I6 S560e, but then I'm not an engineer.

No one is wanting the V8 anymore? or they just won't offer it? That's what drew me to MB in the first place. A V8.

Of course they're going to offer it for the S-Class for the forseeable future. In my case though the I6 which does 0-62 in 4.8s is plenty...it is just as fast as the pre-FL V8...and I appreciate the mild hybrid efficiency.

Don't expect the S500 to make it to the US anytime soon either, if at all with the W222. This car would be difficult to position in the US.

I just noticed that the German MB site lists the S500 only in RWD, at least for now. Disappointed again.

although the S500 did 0-62 in 4.8 seconds in RWD. So AWD will make it probably faster than the S560 RWD which is bad for their marketing strategy!
