I am selling a 18K gold mens rope chain. It is very clean and actually not a widely available gold rope chain configuration. It weighs 70 grams (69.8g, I believe); it is 30 in.; and it has a very sturdy clasp.
Price: $3,300
This particular rope chain (this weight, Karat, and length combination) sells for at least $3,600 from online "wholesalers."
Don't pass up on this deal. This a beautiful and strong chain that will last forever and always remain classy.
Thank you
* The first picture has a ruby ring and a gold eagle coin in the pic for size comparison.
* In the third picture, I tried to take a picture of the end of the chain, where the 18 karat stamp is located. The number "8" is difficult to make out because only the bottom loop is clearly visible; the top loop is kind of cut off. The jeweler didn't fit the entire "8" on the gold. But, in person, you can make it out much more clearly. If you have a way of maximizing the third picture, you can get a better sight of the "18."

Technically you are correct. But, if you do some research on the specific dimensions (weight, width) and characteristics of this particular chain, you would find that there are not very many places that sell these and some of the places that do claim to be "wholesalers" will sell this chain for $4K. I have taken this very chain to the jewelry district in Los Angeles and the first thing I noticed was that I couldn't find one wholesaler who was selling a chain of this weight.
I'm not saying that there aren't jewelers at the jewelry district that don't stock huge and heavy chains but this chain isn't huge and it's not heavy. This chain is just the perfect size. (subjective opinion). And it is stout for its size.
I have never seen a chain like this sold anywhere besides online and searching around online I have never seen one sold for $2,500.
Now, if you're a wholesaler or you friends or family are and they are willing to get rid of this chain for an actual wholesale price, that's great, but most of us don't have those connections.
Btw, I know you were just stating your own experience. I just have a different one.
Thank you for the well wishes.
Edit: According to my calculations, which includes a gold spot price of $1,368.90 per troy ounce, this 18K gold chain (18K is 75% solid gold) contains 52.5 grams of solid gold. Dividing $1,368.90 by 31.1 (amount of grams in troy ounce) equals $44.00 per gram of solid gold. Multiply 52.5 grams of solid gold by $44.00 and you get a total solid gold value of $2,310.00.
I understand that there are various ways to price gold and you can even sell this 18K gold chain by the gram for like $15.00 a gram but, when you are talking about buyers who want to purchase a fine, crafted, heavy gold chain, it's pretty relevant that the chain itself contains 52.5 grams of solid gold. And it obviously costs money to make a chain and sell it.
You might have been able to purchase this chain for $2,500.00 when gold was cheaper.
Also, to add that the appraisal value that my insurance company places on the chain is $4,700.00. And, I know that you would be foolish to purchase any jewelry for appraisal value, but I'm selling it for $1,400.00 less than that.

Same thing goes if you go to tiffanys and buy a 2ct diamond for $50,000 yet wholesale it is worth $21,000. So price is only relative to demand.
Got Gold?

Reducing price for short time. $2,950.00 firm.
Well, I guess market demand really does determine price. In case any of you were being patient and waiting to see if I would relent and sell this beautiful chain for wholesale price, you did well.
