When mine is ready for the track (someday ), this upgrade will be at the top of the list.

Adjusting
spring heights to load all four corners of the car in balance for maximum handleing.Corner scales, adjustable coil overs, spring rates and a whole bunch of time involved to get it right.

WOW - old thread.
Steve was kind enough to give me a ride in his car when I attended the AMGfest back in '06...really got me thinking about suspension and performance priorities.
....an adjustable suspension is at the top of the list, that is.....after more tires!

He let me drve it.....handles like its on rails. He kept telling me to push it , but I didn't want to - it wasn't mine ,and if something happened he would have had a long walk home.

Ya, this is an old thread. I built the same setup I run on my C43 for Steve, except for the custom swaybars. But the independant spring hieght adjusters on each corner makes things very nice and the Double Adjustable Penske shocks are really nice, with better valving than anything other than Ohlins shocks or Moton.
These W202's and W208's make very good cars to go to the roadrace track with. All they need is better shocks and springs and they will out-run many so called faster cars pretty easily.
And corner weighting is where you raise and or lower each corner of the car so that when you sit in the seat the cross-weight between the left front and right rear are the same as the right front and left rear. The reason you do this is that when you corner or go from left turn to right turn the weight transfer to the tires is pretty equal. With the equal weight transfer you get better car control and better loading of the chassis and tires, which makes the car corner faster, brake harder and transision much better.

I just read the notification this thread was updated (a good bit now! ) ... all I have to add is "what they said!" (hey Jeff! What's up?!)
In all honesty though, I did it too soon in the process. I didn't have the heights right (car was too low) and the alignment right, and front springs were a bit too soft, and some other things worked out yet, so it was money wasted @ that time. This thread reminds me of considering doing it again. ...but will probably put that money into a Cooper S ... or the retaining walls I need built in the back .
My biggest issue is technique. The car handles so well I never brake into turns. And that just doesn't make for optimal turn attack and weight transfer to the outer front tire. It handles much better when I braking into a turn, but I have to go what I feel to be very "uncivilized" speeds here in suburbia to make me feel like I need to bother w/brakes...

Well, not exactly... 90% sure I'm getting a new Mini S [R56S] for a fuelish but fun daily driver; I'll be doing a lot of driving in the coming months and nothing I have does better than in the 16mpg range or lower. The C is @ 82K miles and I just don't wanna put more; I won't care putting it on a "cheap" car. The fact it handles like a go-cart stock is quite the bonus, but does make the C43 redundant in a way; tho it is the only car I have I can fit 4 people in. I'm not selling it just yet (besides, who's going to wanna give me the $25K I'd want?), but if I do, it's going complete as is. Sorry, but hope ya like Silver; just add your brakes on to it.

Jeff I agree that if these shocks were available it would make a big difference in the handling feel of the car. I think I need to pm u for more info on getting a pr of these shocks.

I am working with a couple of race shops to see if I can put together a shock package and help out a few people who really want thier cars to handle very differently. I will post back here when I get the details worked out and PM me if interested I could get a beter package if more people are interested. This would apply to the W202's and W208

Hey, I haven't been getting e-mails of updates to this thread. Nice to see it kicking again! So how the hell's everyone do'n?!
Me, since I started working @ home so not commuting anymore approaching 2 years now I've put only a few thousand a year miles across the 4 vehicles I own with my c43/55 hardly driven, so I'm really really not doing what I intended with this car or this suspension setup. After spending all that dough, I'm kinda doing this now I really just drive the '09 Mini JCW now, and bring the Jeep out in foul weather.
Anyone wanna buy a fantastic looking and driving mechanically restored '88 560SL and this hopped-up C43/55 w/this suspension, 5.4L E55 motor, and loads of MBenzNL enhancements? Package deal ... 1st $50K takes it!
