Guys, I am so happy.............................

I finally found the fix for my lean problem. I has my car dyno as Vadim's shop (EvoSport) today and my car is now running at a very healthy an average A/F ratio of 13.0:1. I don't have time to write about my experienced today but i'll try to write about it tomorrow. I want to say thank you to Vadim for all his help and plus free dyno times.

I want to know how did you get the a/f to lower?

Linh,
I already have the upsolute chip in my car, and I am thinking about geting the asp pulley like buellwinkle, I already asked him some questions about it. I want to know that if it is the upsolute chip that make your car running within the good range of the a/f ratio or it is something else. If it is the upsolute chip, I will get the pulley right away and have lenny reporgram the chip for me and my car will be good to go ^_^ I really want to have more HP.... always hungry for more HP.

Anything will help, thanks!

You may want to ask Mark Cummins as he has the Upsolute chip that Lanny did along with a pulley kit.

PoloJCP,

On my 1999 Slk, it was the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) that fixed the lean problem not the chip. Unfortunately, you can not use the fuel pressure regulator like mine because your fuel injection system are different then mine. Your FPR is built into with the fuel pump. I haven't heard of anyone change out the fuel pump yet. So your only option is to have the dealer reset the fuel stage to 2 or 3 setting like Renncpe, Buellwrinkle, and Mark Cumming.

You will have big problem if you install any pulley right now because your chip is tuned to stock car. The basic chip tunning for stock car is to advances the timming and add fuel. Now if you install the pulley, what happen is that the timming is TOO high. I Know this from Lanny at Upsolute that this is the same case with Mark Cumming car. Mark have to have his ECU reprogramed because he got Upsolute chip before he got his pulley installed. Whether or not it help out the A/F ratio? I don't know but he also has the dealer to reset the fuel stage on his car too. Buellwrinkle just got his car reset the fuel stage too but he haven't dyno his car yet to see if it help his A/F ratio. Btw, when ever you are ready for pulley........i can help you get ASP pulley cheaper then $350.

Actually one of the first pulley kits for the coupe, the Wetteraur, comes with a fuel pump mod for the coupe. Their pulley kit is $1,299 but I haven't heard of anyone that's done it. It's not on their website but I did talk to them about it a year ago.

Here is the Wetterauer web page that discussed the SLK pulley upgrade:

http://www.chip-tuning.com/usa/main/mainmenu.html

I did not have any luck with the previous version (pulley changed on S/C not crank).

You can change the factory fuel and timing maps through the Merc service computer. This has been covered in great detail previously. do a serach on the subject "fuel setting stage"

After reading the threads please note the following:
Fuel setings are 1, 2 and 3. 1 is leanest 3 is richest.
Timing is modified by fuel quality settings.
Please note these settings ALL relate to Euro RON , not US PON.
many people have mistakenly changed Octane setting to 93 in the US thinking this is for high quality fuel. This actually retards the timing for LOW quality 93RON fuel. Maximum ignition advance comes from the fuel quality setting BASE which is for 95 RON fuel.
91 PON (US) = 95 RON
You can richen the factory fuel mixture and also retard the timing with these two adjustments.

I have personally played around with these settings alot with Merc tech's experimenting on my car as I have modified the engine in my E55 and they are all rev heads who seemed to enjoy helping me, so I am very certain in what I am saying.

Not on my 1999 slk 230? Never heard of anyone done this before. I asked my dealer and they said that, only on the newer models.
