Pic Of Renntech Airbox
If anybody is interested, below is a picture of Renntech's Carbon Fiber Airbox. I was thinking about getting it and their ECU upgrade for my E55. However, it is very difficult to justify the cost (which is very very high) versuses the resulting hp gains (about 20 rw hp - as I was told).

I was told that the ECU and the airbox are sold as a package. The ECU is $1995. If the air box separately was sold seperately it would be $2500. But, if bought with the ECU the package, then $3495. As you can see, I want to upgrade my E55, but Renntech's prices are just a little too pricey for me (and my beautiful wife would not be very happy with me).

even a high-flow airbox such as this one, does not divert the air from having to travel over the top of the engine block (HOT!!!), so instead of getting better air to the engine, any airbox that sits on top of the engine just means more hot air to the engine. Definitely not worth it in my opinion, youre much better off getting a properly designed intake with a cone filter and removing the airbox completely in my opinion....just my $.02

I felt the same way about the pricing on the RENNTech air intake system. I have contacted a group in Southern CA http://macperformance.com that says if there is enough interest in an air intake product for ML 430 or other 430 MB automobiles that they would do a prototype. Theit typical units for american auto run about $140/unit. If there is any interest, please email to MAC [info@macperformance.com] and let them know.

What is wrong with your AMG Filter box? The whole AMG filter housing is $230 and the top cover only $115,and is nice., why pay $2,500 for the looks only? You can spend that money better upgrades.
