Mercedes Benz and modding??
How is Mercedes Benz?
If you bring in a MB to a dealer with minor to moderate mods (intake, exhaust, pulley, etc) do the dealers/manufacturer give you guys a hard time and try to void warranties, or do they look at those minor to moderate mods as no big deal and service your car without issue?
What about ECU tunes? I know that's a bigger deal and they'll probably frown on it, but maybe not. How are they with ECU tunes? Do they (techs) "look" for them in their computer diagnostic tools?
If so, what do you guys do, flash back to stock before servicing? And is that undetectable to them then?
Oh, also, like the BMW M5, I read of the "removing the Charcoal inserts in the intake". What exactly do those charcoal inserts do for the intake? And what kind of gains dyno or 1/4 mile track results do you get from removing them?
Thanks
The Charcoal inserts have something to do with preventing air flow and restrict power. It is safe to take these out. I think gains of 5whp are not out of the question. There is a thread about this in the W211 E55 subforum.
My SL55 has been in a number of times over the years for warranty work and the only comment I ever got was, "That is a very strong running SL55"!
My experience, as well as our clients have been no problem.
My guy says exhaust changes are what will void a warranty. I don't know, I'm just repeating what he said.
