your experience with AMG exhaust

I'm moved by the sales and am planning to install AMG exhaust.

I'd like to have your experience in terms of

(1) fuel consumption after install
(2) response, power, torque improvement esp during start-up

the price is USD600 (part + installation) here in HK. fair?

You will not notice anything different. It is mainly for looks. Very mild sound. Nil performance gain. No real HP increase. IMHO it is just an accessory muffler and not a performance muffler.

Mufflers alone make little performance gains. For Mecedes cars in generally it seems to be really difficult to extract more HP from just the muffler because the cars are engineered well already. The gain is usually just a couple of ponies extra. Maybe 2 or 3. Can you fell an extra 3 HP? - probably not. The Performance muffler is mainly for the Performance Look and a more Performance Sound.

Maybe a Brabus or Renntech muffler gains a couple more ponies. Renntech advertises adding their muffler to their Performance Packages the HP increase as:

CLK320 - 10 more
CLK430 - 07 more
E430 - 15 more
E55 - 6 more

Eisenmann advertises these increases:

Sport Perf 3.3 - 3.9%
High Perf 4.1 - 4.7%
Race Perf 6.1 - 6.4%

So a CLK430 with 275HP would minimally gain 9HP with their Sport model.

e55kev, hmmm thats all the performance gain i get huh. maybe i'll just make sure none of my more plump buddies don't ride with me.

no but seriously, from the little i've found out, though a bone stock mercedes may not experience too much performance gain, as you add/swap other performance parts, a less restrictive exhaust is necessary to achieve full potential increase in performance.

i guess what i'm trying to ask is this, other than the brand recognition and sound, is there a real difference in performance from a esinmann (spelling?) that cost around 6-7 hundred as compared to a less expensive model?

Have you found a lower priced MBZ muffler? Usually Eisenmann mufflers are some of the lowest priced mufflers on the market. Renntechs W210 muffler has been reduced in price by almost 50%. It now retails for $790 and used to be about $1,500. Also to get more exhaust peformance you would need to do a full exhaust upgrade with headers & custom pipes. Renntech makes headers also.

www.Supersprint.com is soon to release a W210 muffler, cats and connecting pipes and they are one of the leaders in exhaust.

I would recommend buying a muffler based on looks and sound, because the reality is you will most likely not get more than 2hp from it. In many cases, you may lose a couple hp. Those Eisenmann numbers are based on the e36 m3, and are just numbers. You will not get 9hp with an Eisenmann Sport muffler on any car we have tested! The biggest gains we have seen as of late would be approximately 10hp on certain BMW's by replacing the muffler and resonator. If you're going to buy an exhaust based on manufacturer's hp numbers, I would get it in writing and test it afterwards.

well, taking the adivse of everyone, i wont expect much performance gains. i've seen/ heard most of the exhaust out there for my car, except for eisenmann, supersrint, but the one i really like (lookswise, never heard them) are the mufflers with the tip that are round and point up. has anyone have any experience wit them?

Call DTM tips. Not usually made for Mercedes cars. DTM tips usually seen on BMW's:
