KLEEMANN Lightweight C230 Flywheel

A few shots of our lightweight flywheel and clutch assembly for the M111 engine C230. Total mass of the stock flywheel/pressure plate/clutch disk is 46 lbs. Total mass of the lightened assembly it 29 lbs. This assembly greatly increases the responsiveness of the engine- gone is the sensation of "falling forward" as the revs build to redline. Clutch is a modified Audi S4 (2.7 biturbo) unit that will handle 400HP. Pedal is stiffer than standard but smooth a progressive.

This unit is the first production unit. The ring gear is NLA as a seperate part from MBZ and a very odd tooth count so no other ring will work. Signal generator ring (backside of flywheel) will be expensive to manufacture in quantities less than 500 units. We will probably do these on a "core exchange" basis. $1800 for the complete assembly.

Is $1,800 including my core or without the core? You may need the heavy duty clutch if you come up with 300 ponies with your S/C kit.

$1800 is the price with your core and includes the metal puck disc and modified S4 pressure plate which will handle 400hp.

We installed the Supersprint headers today along with a 2.5 inch exhaust all the way back- this car just screams now.

Headers look great. Are they ceramic coated? Are they noisy?

How much were the headers? Did you get them from Italy or US distributor?

why couldnt you just offer a lightened version of the flywheel without changing the clutch disk?

Are you guys going to wrap the headers to try and limit some of the heat in the engine bay?

I suppose we could have offered the flywheel with the stock disc but we are trying to maximize the car. Our plans include the SC conversion and increased boost- we want to have a clutch that can take it. The S4 clutch is a very close match for size and the clamping pressure is far higher.

We will wrap the headers at some point- we are trying to do a step by step documentation of the perfromance increases afforded by each modification.

Replacing the clutch/flywheel is no different than a stock job- any qualified MBZ tech can do it- of course we would like to see our dealer network do the job as we feel they are the most qualified to perform any of our modifications.

BMP is the Supersprint N/A distributor- we purchased them from BMP. BMP did not stock them and they had to be special ordered from Italy. The cost was approx $1000. Supersprint makes their products is batches through out the year- it is possible for them to be out of stock and not have any more stock for many months. I was told we got "the last set" from existing stock, one would have to call BMP to see if this were true.

I would have it done by a Kleemann dealer / installer. Two questions; Is it currently availible? How long is the anticipated install?

Thanks guys.

99 slk230
Will this fit the '99 slk 230k and also if it doesn't will you be modifying the assembly to fit the slk, I am assuming it is a similar clutch. Also, what is the status on the new super charger? Also, what exhaust did you use, supersprint? wasn't sure you only said that the header was supersprint.

Clutch & Flywheel assembly are the same dual mass affair in every M111 SC engine- will fit SLK. Available as a "built when you order" system (your old assembly is a core for the ring gear and signal generator). Install should take about 6 hours.

We used our rear muffler with the sytem as it is a 2.5 inlet muffler (supplied with reducer sleeve for standard ex systems).

New SC is in process- should be fitted in about 1 to 2 weeks with results shortly afterwards.

Never had any plans for a flywheel for the V6 engine.

I have no hard data on what the stock assembly will handle- only know of a few radical turbo systems that put down 300 rwhp that slipped like mad- I dont want that problem!

Will the 6speed take that kind of power without going to mush?

No hard data from MBZ to support any MAX input claim, that being said, I can break any transmission you put in front of me if its a challenge.

Driven with care (no 6K RPM clutch drops, missed shifts etc etc) the tranny will last.
