main reason I ask is because overseas I saw a fully loaded V12 S class the boxy version so probably 1994-99 have a 380 kph speedometer, the whole car was stock and I was wondering if this S Class could reach 380 kph which is roughly 240 mph, I think its impossible.

Not possible. Most German built cars are limited to 155 mph (250 km/h) stock with a second limiter for ~176 mph about 300 km/h. Even de-limited these cars can only reach about 220 mph. That is the new generation 500 bhp cars not the old 400 bhp generation with poorer aerodynamics.

my buddy in Egypt has a 1989-90 E200 Mercedes which was 100% built in Germany. It barely has 100 hp with around 100k miles on the engine and it can reach its top speed of 260 kph with its 4 speed manual gear, granted it took a long time but it still achieved it. Why can't the S Class reach 380 kph with better aerodynamics, more power and stability?

I doubt a 100 hp car that weighs 1.5++++ tons could reach that speed...

My 220 hp 1.3 ton car with decent aero can reach 143 mph which is about 230 km/h. It dynos @ 173 fwhp.

The faster you want to go the power needs grow tremendously as well as stability needs, cars like the Enzo have a top speed of 220 mph its about 600 bhp and is a good half ton lighter than the S class. The McLaren F1 weighing less than the Enzo has a top speed of 240 mph and that easily toughts the performance of any current Mercedes.

The actual readings on the odometer are useless I can stick a 400 mph speed on any car doesn't mean it will reach that speed. I think one of our old 380SELs had a speedo that read 340km/h care to gamble what the top speed I could take it at?

I'm just going off of what my buddy said, if he reached 260 kph which I know he wouldn't BS about since he is a MB lover, then why can't a S Class reach it with 4 times the power?

Like I said its very doubtful...

Besides that the 1001 BHP Bugatti reaches 400 km/h as its top spead or 250 mph. Thats got 10X more power than your buddies car, and twice as much as the new generation S600 or S55.

Simply put top speed is more than just a multiple of HP. The faster you go the harder it is to go even faster. Your buddy might have exagerated a bit....

240 MPH is possible

240 MPH is possible If your buddy and his car were droped out of a C4 at say 25,000 feet. Other than that NO WAY.

My porsche is 325HP and will only just break 200MPH

20 years ago I drove a 200E in Germany with approx. 120HP. The car was barely able to reach 120mpH (180kmh) let alone 240...

you sure the car didn't have a speed limiter? it should be able to do more.
